Question about Optics

1 Answer

The mount adapter part of the scope that attaches to the tripod has a screw missing (1/4 " metric) and it won't stay tight on the scope with just the large center screw. Where can I get a new screw? or can I replace the complete mount adapter? it is very worn and the rubber on the inside is also very worn-out.

Bring it in to your local hardware store (Ace, or Truevalue, etc.), generally one of those places will have just about any nut or bolt you need. Also apply a small amount of locktite before re-installing to screw, this will keep it from falling out.

Head won't secure to tripod

Two potential issues. 1. Perhaps you have just not screwed it on tight enough. Just tighten the black knob as much as you can then screw the head on your legs as tight as you can. 2. If you can't even do that I will assume that the hole on the bottom of the head is too large for the screw on the tripod legs, in which case you just need a a bushing adapter. Like this one:

There is no way to fix it. You should go to nearest Service centre and change the Camera body part.

I am looking for advice on how to mount a Ball Head on the plate of a regular tripod, So far I have not found a Ball Head that has the same size thread in the bottom. Is an adapter available as a solution....

The bottom threads on most tripod heafs are 3/8", but some are 1/4"/ The mounting screws on MOST tripods are 3/8", but I have seen `/4" (especially on monopods. IF:
tripod=3/8 head = 1/4 need mounting plate 3/8 female to 1/4 male
tripod = 1/4 head - 1/4 nothing
tripod 3/8 head 3/8 nothing'
tripod 1/4 head = 3/8 there is an adapter/reducer that screws into the 3/8
' female and reduces that to 1/4"

I need to purchase screw that attaches scope to window mount on a 78-4405

The mount has a 1/4-20 screw that fits most camera equipment. If you have the scope (spotting scope) it should have that hole in the bottom of the mounting ring. If the screw is missing from the window mount then most 1/4-20 tripod screws will work or you may substitute a cap screw and flat washer, to work with an Allen wrench for tightening.

Lost screw that attaches scope to bushnell window mount #78-4405

If the screw is standard, it is probably what's called a 1/4 x 20 screw. They only cost a few cents at your local hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc.). If it is proprietary, you may need to take the scope and the tripod to the hardware store and try a couple of sizes to see if anything fits.

Of course, you could also try bushnell's website to see if you can order parts.

I recently bought a used bushnell reflector telescope that is missing a tripod mounting bracket and screw, can you please tell me where i can find one?

You cannot find parts for that very low cost telescope. You can buy a tripod but the cost will probably be more than you paid for the scope.

Here are tripods:

Next time do not waste your money on these types of telescopes. Instead save up and buy something like this:

I have a WO IBIS 80 APO Spotting Scope. How do use it with other 1 1/4" eyepieces? The packaged zoom eyepiece seems to have a threaded attachment to the scope.

sounds like it was designed to use only the eyepiece that came with it. here is an idea...mount the scope on a tripod with no eyepiece in it...now take an 1 1/4" eyepice and place against the scope where you would put the eyepiece ..try to focus..if you cant, then slowly bring the eyepiece away from the scope till you see a sharp image..im sure a machine shop can make a sleeve to screw into your scope and hold 1 1/4" at that point.any questions i can answer call me larry@reichinstruments.com 5088331232
