I have a hoover six express that wont spin it only turns anticlockwise on the wash cycle when it comes to the spin it turns once then stops the drain punp is running i have cleaned the filter and checked the brushes they all seem ok can anyone help thanx
All hoover machines spin in a clockwise direction the fact that you say the machine only washes in an anti-clockwise direction is a good indication that the reversing switches have failed (these provide the switching to drive the motor in either direction) if your machine uses a mechanical type programme timer this has failed if it it is a processor controlled machine it will be the motor drive card will need to be replaced either way not a diy task

turn the wash temperature control knob anticlockwise until you come to the key symbol at the end of the blue zone; then turn the knob a little further and the door will swing open; a special safety device prevents thedoor from opening during the wash or at the end of the spin cycle; at the end of the spin wait up to two minutes before opening the door - the instructions from the user's manual. good luck!
Not spinning at all can sometimes be caused by a blocked filter or drain pipe. Does your machine spin if you turn the dial to the spin only setting?
Ours has developed a fault whereby it won't spin at the end of a normal cycle, but if I turn the dial to 'off' then to 'spin only', it will spin.
The noise, is it a grinding noisy like worn bearings?
put the washer on drain only - is the pump working ok, take the filter out to see if it is turning ok, does that make a strange noise?
If the pump is fine, its back to that noise, it could be be a faulty tacho on the motor ( regulates the spin speed) or motor bearings - has the motor spindle a lot of play on it?
Let me know how you get on and good look!
The filter is to be found at the bottom front left of washer behind a removeable plastic trim, if you can see a screw in the filter cover, undo this, and turn filter anticlockwise to remove.
If no filter at front, then remove rear panel of washer, and remove large black hose fastened to drum, check for blockage here, and check the pump at the same time.

Hoping to be of help after the spin dry wouldnt work on our hoover elite 1210.
It would do the wash cycle fine but as soon as it needed to drain, it wouldn't.
My handy man (Husband) is great at fixing things and opened the front panel by undoing the screws.
Near the motor on the bottom left, there is a wheel/fan looking thing.
(Turn the machine off first)
He tried to spin the wheel but it would only move clockwise and not anti-clockwise like it is supposed to.
So he gave the fan a few spins clockwise before giving it a gentle pull outwards in which it loosened the wheel and was able to move anticlockwise again.
We then turned the machine on and it started spinning and draining the machine.
This machine is a work horse and I refuse to get another. They don't make them like they used to!!
Mine has a leak and we use a drip tray underneath at the moment. So long as it works. I am happy.
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
Your problem could be caused the interlock but it could also be that the machine is failing to drain in the time alllowed and therefore the machine will not spin, before buying a lock check the sump hose and pump area for blockages.
