SOURCE: Buying a top-loading washing machine - advice needed

You are on the right track looking for a top loader. I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the machine ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and just happened to see that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video on youtube which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video (direct drive washer repair) made it possible for me to do my own repair. You probably don't have any idea of the wonderful help you can get from youtube videos. Your first stop should be at youtube. Just search for the help you need. You could search for "clothes dryer repair" or "clothes washer repair" or "dishwasher repair". If you are not able to view and/or download the videos, or after you've seen all you want to see, I suggest you go directly to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers, dryers. and dishwashers as well as other appliances. Another excellent site is www.acmehowto.com If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart these youtube videos are wonderful help. I was so impressed with them that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about the videos. If you look at the back of your top load washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove, which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video (direct drive washer repair) is just what you need. After you've seen all the appropiate videos, or if you have a belt drive washer, you will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good trouble shooting and repair nformation on most washers and dryers, dishwashers and many other household appliances. I think you'll find what you need there. Another excellent site for DIY help is www.acmehowto.com Don't worry about the timer on a washer, they hardly ever go bad. I realize I haven't solved your problem for you, but I hope I have sent you where you can get help to solve the problem. Good luck with it.

SOURCE: Can you please let me

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Actually the 'Cabrio' model, for some reason which I cannot fathom, does NOT have a filter which I have to say seems a bit strange! Maybe it is not practical/feasible (???).

It must be possible to be able to have the drain motor/pump checked 'cos that could be a bit blocked up???

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Can u use water softner pellets direct in to water

Water softener salt is used to regenerate a water softener after the softener has been in operation for a few days removing hardness from the water. If you were to only add the salt to your water you would still have hard water but now it would become salty. Go to youtube and look up How does a water softener work? If you want to buy one go to wqa.org and find a Certified Water Specialist close to you. He or she will be one of the only 5% of water treatment people who have received formal training in how to fix your water. There is a lot that can be done to improve your water.

Waterside water softener model MC250 Dear Sir, Salt level did not go down during regeneration. I poured 2 pints of warm water to break solidified tablet salt, I found moist salt, but very little water in...

the salt in use should water softener salt and nothing else
there is water added to the salt crystals up to the overflow hole
during regeneration that salty water (Brime) is drawn into the unit and upon finishing the process that reserve is refilled for the next time
there is little salt actually used during the regeneration process ( around 4 regenerations to a 25 kg bad )

I want to buy IFB Serena SX Aqua. I was told by the dealer that this model has a filter which convert hard water to soft water. Since we use borewell water which is hard, washing machine with this function...

there is no filter that changes hard water to soft water
filters are by their name filters and that means removing particles over a certain size
they cannot change the ph value , or the iron or calcium content or remove any other dissolved element
you can get carbon filters which can eliminate taste or ceramic filters which remove down to .01 microns which is good for a lot of bacteria but the water hardness will not change
best if you invest in a good water softener unit that uses salt as the softening medium or the more expensive osmosis units that can do the job
talk with the water supply experts at irrigation shops or water filtration shops to get a better idea of what water hardness is

Gritty/sandy feeling on dishes from dishwasher

You could only check the basics. Since the dishes are clean, it means they went through the wash cycle. It also means that that the holes on the washer arm are not blocked. If they were salty and dirty the wash arms would be something to check. And since they came out feeling like salt is on them its possible they didn't rinse and its also possible the dirty water didn't drain. Were your drain and fill hoses checked or did the techs just check the dish washing machine itself? Its also possible the water for rinse is not hot enough. Before the rinse cycle comes around try running the hot water at your kitchen faucet. Any other issues may be within the cycling of the machine.

High ph, algea, salty taste

You are going to need to buy chemicals anyway (acid for sure and probably algaecide) so find a good pool store tech and have them test your water and recommend the proper doses.

In summary though, you should not taste the salt in the pool and being able to means the salt content is to high. Chlorine generators will not work if the salt is to high and the fix is to drain water and dilute the remaining water until the salt content is no higher than max. No chlorine could explain the algae.

Generators also cause the pH to rise over time so you will need to keep acid on hand to counteract that.

Your salt is way to high if you can taste it. You will need to dilute with fresh water until you get the salt back down and then clean the cell for continued use.

Problems with my bosch dishwasher

there should be no salt getting into the wash cavity. if you are sure that it is leaving salty water on the items then either the salt cap is loose/damaged or the regeration system is faulty-this is an expensive fix.
