Hi,

Thank you for contacting Fixya. This is Anil.

I understand that when you print you see blobs of ink on the paper. I will be glad to help you with it.

Blobs or missing colors may happen if the printer has developed a bad nozzle check. If you press and hold the Ink button for 6 seconds while it is printing, the printer will stop and do a head cleaning, then resume printing that page. 1280 printers will stop, head clean and then resume the print, small format printers will stop, kick the paper out, do a head clean and resume the print. Also, sometimes while printing, the paper gets saturated and starts to wrinkle in the printed area. This can cause the head to touch the paper and create streaks or blobs of ink on the paper. To correct this is easy, set your paper thickness setting between normal (0) and Heavy (+). Tape the lever there to keep it stable. Then do a nozzle check to clear up the problem.

To Nozzle Check:
Go to your "Printers" folder and right click on your printer.
Choose "Properties". (in Win2000/XP click "Printing Preferences" on the properties page)
At the top click on the "Utitlty" or "Maintenance" tab which ever one you have.
Click on "Nozzle Check" to start the nozzle check wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to clear the pattern up.

If you get broken lines you will need to do a head cleaning to correct the problem.
TIP - Tapping on the top of the cartridges may help break the bubble up.
TIP - Do not do more than 5 head cleanings per hour, it usually does not help. Wait 45 mins before you continue trying to clear the nozzle check up.
TIP - If you get no ink on a nozzle check and the red ink light is NOT on, you may a problem with your printer. Epson printers have a one year warranty.

I believe the above resolution should resolve the issue, however, if you need anymore assistance, please feel free to contact us. We will be glad to help you.

Thank you. Have a Great Day.

Regards,
Anil.B.R

    Dear Anil,

Thank you for answering me so quickly.

First of all, I have a Brothers DCP-165C printer not an Epson.

    Secondly, I have a Macintosh (10.5.8).

I have tried to find "Properties" but I do not have it nor do I have an "Utility" or "Maintenance" tab.

So, can you tell me how to fix the problem by going to my printer and not my computer?

Or tell me how to find the "Utility" or Maintenance" tab with my Brothers printer and my Macintosh.

    Thank you!

P.S. I do not have cartridges either but I refill ink with "needle-like" things. Understand?

Usually similar problems were the result of a dirty capping station area and the head carriage picking up ink from that area and dropping it while printing. You could check/clean that side when you select head change on the printer panel and look in the right side interior with a torch at hand.

It could be that the color or black cart was overfilled and put more pressure on that channel when inserted. If you print a full black or colour area of say 10 square feet on cheap paper it may solve the issue.

You just gave me the same answer as the first which I responded by telling you I don't have an Epson!!

    Disappointed!

Your problem is that your Teflon coating on the fuser is very worn.
You need a new fuser, as the failures here are not always visible, because the black spots are formed to get the paper and fading with every turn.
But re-form when it enters another sheet with toner to the fuser and we start the cycle again.

Probably a clogged nozzle.
  1. Remove the black ink.
  2. Get a cotton swab and dip it in alcohol
  3. Rub the base of the housing that the cartridge mounts in in a circular motion. Do not apply heavy pressure!!
  4. Check the bottom of the cartridge for globs of ink. If there are any you may need to wipe the cartridge across a napkin or paper towel.
  5. Reinstall and try again.

Ink problems

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell1.gif AIO A940 printer1.gif that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.

Black ink won't print, just the color ink prints. It's a Brother MFC-3240C thanks in advance

You must run a clean cycle after installing a new cartridge.
Try running a clean cycle and see if that relieves the problem. I just had the same problem on a MFC 210C and called Brother. That is what they had me do and now it is working fine.
