If the cd drive is bad replace it...if there is a disc that you need you can open it with a paperclip...gather up a paperclip (or something close to the same size) if you look on the front of the drive there is a tiny hole...unwind the paperclip straightening it out and slide the paperclip in the hole...it should open with no problem

Are you saying that your laptop dont have a cd drive fitted or that you cannot find it in properties

if the second is ur problem maybe you need to uninstall the driver for the cd drive in device manager if it indeed in there if not you could go here http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/support.html

and find a driver for it

That's what usually breaks if you have a 478 pin cpu. Should be available in any computer shop. If the actual metal bracket on the heatsink broke you will have to buy a new fan/heatsink. Both solutions are cheap.
