What you could check is that the fan at the back of the unit, where the compressor is located, is working, as this could also cause a heat build up. The partition between the two sides does generally tend to get hot due to the door circuit, to prevent ice buildup around the door. But people tend to notice when something is different. You are also right to check for dust underneath the cabinet as the condenser tends to be layered. If you have already cleaned it all out then you have probably done as much as you can. If you are still concerned contact a fridge guy. Hope this is of some help.

Turns out a circuit board had failed and the fan (back of frig) was not working. Because of this, coils were overheating which triggered the icemaker to stop functioning. Until the part was replaced, we put a portable fan in the back and within a day, things were cooling down and the icemaker was functioning again.
The part with installation was $200. Took less than a week for the part to arrive.

clean the coils under the machine and make sure the airflow under the machine is not obstructed in any way

SOURCE: Maytag side by side fridge.
My Maytag side by side #MSD2957AE center front between the doors got very very hot. Too hot to touch. Also the top outside of unit and cabinet above unit unusually hot. I was worried and wondered if it could start a fire. I pulled out from wall and found lots of dust naturally. But the fan was not spinning. I moved it with my finger and it took off spinning. Unplugged, vacumed dust as best I could. Replugged and the fan started spinning on it's own. I plan to watch it. Also clean around the fan motor better, even pull it and lube it with some silicone spray. After running for a while center post is warm but not hot. thank you. JOE.

HI, this is a sign the fridge isn't cooling proper. Check and see if there is frost building up on the rear panel of the freezer. Check and see if the evaporator or the condensor fan motors are running. Check and see if the compressor is running.
Pleasae let me know if I can assist you fyrther.
