Use telnet and issue command reset system
This will reset the entire system

    COULD YOU PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC. HOW DO I CONNECT TO THE SWITCH IN WHICH PORT AND WITH WHAT KIND OF CABLE? WHAT SETTINGS DO I NEED IN MY LAPTOP? CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW DO I SET TELNET INTO THE SWITCH? THANKS I REALLY APPRECIATED.

    Connect it up as you would normally on local network use laptop open Start menu Click Run type telnet
    and type the Local network ip assigned to the superstack and upon connection login is required enter admin login and type reset system

    Thank you 4 the information. My problem is that I bought this switch in an auction and I do not have any info. I beleive that all default settings such as the IP address and password has been changed. Can I somehow do it another way? Thanks for your help.

    Use a ip scanner E.g Angry ip scanner
    And scan 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.255.255 it will take some time but then will find the ip's for devices on your local network make sure the superstack is connected to the network correctly like hook it up to the same internet.

    Thank you, I ran the angry ip tool but could not find it the range I entered. I could not fix it tonight but I will come back to it next week. Is there a button you just can push and reset it. Please let me know. Thanks for your help and take care.

    No button to push and reset, Only way to reset is using an external command tool like telnet
    to tell box to reset, A Local store if you are unable to do it may do it for a little charge if you are unsure how to link it up

Connect the switch with a null-modem cable
In windows, hyperterminal , To enter into Password Recovery Mode:
login: recover
password: recover
Turn the power off (hard reset) within 30seconds
Re-enter the password twice.

Default password is incorrect or reset doesn't work


The default ip is 192.168.1.1
default user-name and password for the 5 models of 3com are as follows.:

sound like its fails the post.manual says should yellow if it fails, green if it passes. maybe hard reset unplug it from power wait a couple minutes plug back in.

How to recover old password on 4300 switch?


you manually RESET your device by pressing the "reset" button at the back. it will be reset to factory setting with the default password loaded.

Wants to reset 3824 3com switch via console


You forget the password for the "admin" user account and can no longer perform important management operations. solution.gif Use the password recovery method outlined below to define a new password for the "admin" user account:
  1. Access the Command Line Interface from the console port and enter the user name "recover" and password "recover" to place the Switch in password recovery mode. The Switch remains in password recovery mode for a maximum of 30 seconds, before it returns to the CLI login prompt.

    note.gif You must use the console port to recover the passsword. If you attempt the recovery method using the network, the password will be rejected.

  2. Perform a hard reset on the Switch whilst it is in password recovery mode by switching it off, waiting a few seconds, and switching it on again.

    note.gif You cannot use a soft reset operation to reset the password of the "admin" user account. This will end the password recovery procedure and return you to the CLI login prompt.

  3. When the Switch has rebooted following the hard reset enter a new password for the "admin" user account.

Inherited 2 switches 3com 4228g (3c17403) password problem


I haven't worked with these switches but generally settings such as ip address and factory defaults can be set through the Console Interface (CLI). You will need a null-modem cable to access this and a terminal client (Windows Hyperterminal works).

Doesn't POST


I've got a Superstack II 3300 24port switch, all leds are on, and led 8 blinks.
I'll let you know if I find a solution.

Download free version of HyperTerminal for Vista : ftp://ftp.hilgraeve.com/htpe/htpe63.exe
Make a new connection :
connect using COM1 (depends of your configuration)
19 200 bits/sec
8 data bits
No parity
1 stop bit
No control of flux

And push enter twice to display a "Login:" prompt.
