Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Somehow, it was infected with malware, and I was unable to restore via prior system restore point. I tried running in safe mode to see if that would help, using the command prompt MSCONFIG > BOOT.INI > /SAFEMODE. After rebooting my laptop, the Acer logo comes up, and I have a black screen with a few options.
Run windows in:
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration Settings
None of them work. It'll reboot itself, and the same screen with these options appear. I do not have the recovery disks needed, and Acer will not provide them for the very reason that my laptop is over three years old. I don't know what to do. Please help.
Thank you for contacting Fixya. This is Anil.
I understand that your computer is infected with Malware and now the computer is not booting to normal mode.
I can uderstand how frustrating this could be and I assure I will try be best to resolve this issue.
From the statement I understand that it may happen due to hardware failure, BIOS mismatch or due to static charge. Let us try the basic troubleshooting. Turn Off the Computer, remove all the devices attached to the computer, the power cable and battrey, now holdon the power button for 15 secs (make sure adpater and battery are uplugged) it will drain out all the static charge. Now, restart the computer and keep on tapping F2 (some computers "DEL or Delete" key), you will enter to BIOS setup utility, press F9 (click "Yes", if you are prompted) and then press F10 (Click "Yes", if you are prompted), it will restart the computer to Normal mode. If still it is not booting to normal mode, then we have to perform a full system recovery & it is a distructive process as you will loose all the datas on the computer. To do so, Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.
I believe the above resolution should resolve the issue, however, if the issue still persists, please contact us. We will be glad to help you.

you possibly have a spyware infection, (like a virus)
if you reboot and have the same problems, then try booting into safe mode, if keyboard still locked up, try using an external keyboard (to test your system), if the external keybard works then it may just be that your keyboard is broken (and needs replacing)
