Device Manager in Control Panel will provide this information

Go to Start, then Control Panel, click System icon, then Device Manager tab and you will find the information in the drill down menu.

Sound. the adjustment to sound is faded out and will not respone to clicks. I have no sound.

Could you please send me more info? I am unable to post back the solution right away cuz you didn't mention much about your System. I need to know the Operating System installed on your computer, the model and make of your PC or motherboard. If the sound card is installed on the motherboard then please let me know the name/model of your sound card. If I am not wrong, the sound card must be built on the motherboard itself. Thanks a lot.

I need sound and vga drivers for motherboard Asus P4S533-MX Socket 478, I run windows xp and both sound and vga are built in.

firstly you will need to check the manual of your motherboard to know the name of the vga card and the sound device its using, by then you can get a good drivers for them at driversbay.com, or you search for the driver with the name of the device using any searching engine you know by typing (free vga driver for asus p4s533-mx socket) in the search bar.

First of all, what is the name of the sound card (device), intergrated audio or PCI card? There are so many manufacturers for sound card. Please be precise, we are here to help but do ask us to look for a needle in a haystack!!!!!!

My driver no. Is ST3160215A but sound is not instal i want instal the sound driver

It seems you've made a mistake telling us about your problem. Please let me know the sound card model (brand-model name not the model number) name, or if it's onboard, let me know the motherboard version name and make. The number you mentioned here is the Hard disk model that's installed on your system which is made by seagate.
Good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa/

Sound can not be played on my system and asked about audio out put device

this is happening when the sound card has no driver ...probably you downgraded to xp from vista or windows 7 and now you do not have the suitable driver for xp...
If this is a brand computer ...than you can look on the manufacturer's site for the sound driver ....(for xp) if it is not...and it is a desktop....open it and take a look at the sound card if it is a pci card...and let me know the name ..and model...if it is an on board card ..than I need the motherboard name ...
If the computer came with a driver disk ..and always used Xp ..but now you just reinstalled it ...look for the sound driver on the mother board disk ..or separate disk if it has a PCI card ..
(the pci card for sound is just a separate card ..that is inserted in a pci slot ..that is why its called that way ...and its different from a on board ..one just by that...The on board cards..always have the drivers on the disk that came with the motherboard..)
Im waiting for an answer and will see whats to do further..

Deleted my windows xp home edition sound software. how do i restore it?

you need to install the sound driver ...probably if you have the motherboard cd ..that came with it ..it will be in there ...if you do not have the drivers cd ..you have to find out what is the full name of the motherboard...or of the sound card if it has a pci ( separate not on board )card..
even so ..when you bought the sound card a cd with the driver was provided..and that is the one that you need to run in order to restore the sound..
If your card it is on board..built in ...the mother board drivers cd will have it on ...anyway ...if you donot have them ..place a comment here for me with the name f the computer ..or if it is a built one ...and not a factory built ...name the motherboard..and I will provide a driver ..
if this computer has more than 3 years old ..try this driver cause most of them were build with this one then ...
http://www.mediafire.com/file/mzywuii2jzm/realtek.zip
its worth give it a try if you do not have the original drivers cd anymore ..
just download..unzip...and choose one suitable for the os you have ...I guess is the xp.on 32..
if it is not working ..open the computer and let me know the name of the motherboard to provide the right driver ..
