Question about GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX27PRBWW
Hello! We have a GE Freezer-Top Refrigerator GTR11AAPARWW. Recently the Interior Light stopped working. We tried replacing the bulb but still no go. In the manuals troubleshooting section for this refrigerator it says, "Replace Fuse or Reset the Breaker" if changing the bulb doesn't work. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm at my wits end.
If you changed the light bulb but the problem persists and the rest of the unit is working fine then the door light switch has probably failed. Item 13 this link: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5131917&diagram_id=24986225#d24986225

This will be located in the fold hinge area of the door.
Note the 2 tabs on the sides that must be depressed with either a putty knife or a kinfe blade to remove it from the chassis. Then it is a matter of disconnecting the 2 terminals. You can test this with a meter using resistance by pulling off one wire and depressing the plunger. Static hands off the plunger you will read continuity. Plunger depressed it will read open. If your switch does NOT read like that then it has failed.
Additionally.... there is the possibility that ice build up in the back of your light socket has disconnected one or the terminals of the socket. The light socket is removable from the front. Most of the light sockets rotate 90 degrees (CAREFULLY with bulb removed) and then can be removed. Check the terminals of the socket to make sure they are attached.
As far as replacing fuse.. or resetting the breaker they are talking about the house main power panel. If everything but the light works the Fuse or Circuit Breaker is NOT your "no light" problem.
Thanks for using FixYa.

What the manual states about replacing fuse or reset the breaker is if there is no power to the fridge outlet. It is refering to the home fuse or circuit breaker box, which I assume is working since you are concerned about the interior light of the fridge.
There is a not a whole lot that can go wrong with the interior light. The only components are the bulb, bulb socket, door switch and the wiring. To troubleshoot, verify that you are getting power to your light bulb socket. If you have a meter, remove the bulb from the socket and place the meter leads to the electrical contacts in the light socket, you should be reading 120VAC. If you don't then the problem is with the wiring or the switch. If you do have power in the socket then, verify that the bulb is good by using the meter or installing it into a lamp.
If the bulb is good, but does not work in the fridge, is sometimes the bulb is not installed properly. What I mean is even when the bulb seems to be screwed in and it is tight, that it still does not make an electrical connection. You might need to give the bulb an additional fraction of a turn in order to seat the bulb into the socket. I remember a time when I thought that the bulb was screwed in, it would not light. I needed to give it an other half a turn to get the lightbulb to work.
Hope this helps you.

The manual says to replace fuse or eset the breaker for the receptacle the refrigerator is plugged into. If it running, and cold that's not the problem.
First test your new bulb in a lamp to be sure it's working. If its the rubber type socket type make sure the bulb is all the way in. Make sure there isn't a broken bulb base left in the socket. (do this with refrig unplugged) Check door switch that it isn't stuck, or "frozen" .
