Question about Casio Exilim EX-S600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Olympus D340R I received this camera off of with the person saying she did not know if it worked or not. In the box was a sheet of paper saying it had been sent in for repairs but the problem was not fixed. The camera is taking pictures but the LCD remains black. We found out it is taking pictures by putting the memory card into the computer. Is there some way we can fix this problem ourselves or do you have any suggestions? This is an older camera but wanted it for my son to just mess around with. Thanks!

Yes, it is an Olympus. I'm sorry for putting it after the Exilim posting. I realized it after I'd already posted my need for help.

I had opened the camera to look inside. I, too, thought maybe something had come loose. Nothing looked loose. How would I go about fixing the back light? LCD? Thanks,

Their counld be several diffrent reason why the lcd is not working.

  1. back light is out
  2. lcd broke
  3. lcd cable came loose
  4. if you can see a menu than under the setup there will be a place to reset your camera to defaults.
  5. or the mainboard is damaged

any of these things can cause your issue. You can also upgrade your camera to a 4.0 mega pixel really cheap cheaper then having this model fixed. Just FYI Hope this helps.

see if their is one on ebay that is broke for cheap and you can take it out of their. Its a pretty easy fix if you have a replacement.

D. ?There are five (main) components to an (e-mail) message besides the message box itself: from, to, cc, bcc, and subject.

Yes.... that's right. but what is your question?

If you're asking about CC - that means carbon copy. It comes from the days of typewriters when a sheet of carbon paper was inserted between two pages inserted into in a typewriter.

The impact of the inked letters wrote on the top sheet, and the impact also caused the carbon paper to transfer the same text onto the second sheet of paper. Hence 'Carbon Copy'.

BCC means 'Blind Carbon Copy'.

If you send an email to somebody but include a second person as 'CC' the person who receives the CC is aware that the email was sent to somebody else as well.

if you add somebody as BCC - Blind Carbon Copy - that person receiving it is unaware the email was also sent to another recipient.

I have an olympus 35mm camera that no longer advances. I have taken it to a couple of camera repair shops and have been told it cannot be fixed because parts are no longer made for this camera. Are you...

Unfortunately the repair shops are correct, and like many similar models the situation is made worse by the fact that your camera was never designed to be repaired or serviced. It was made to last about six years/100 rolls of film before being replaced. Professional repairers also won't touch your camera as it is quite literally worthless: customers tend to balk at fees which far exceed the cost of replacing the camera and so the repairer risks doing unpaid work with a very high risk of a subsequent unpaid warranty repair if the camera fails again shortly after being fixed..

The good news is that as there are millions of similar cameras lying unused you can replace it free or extremely cheaply. Many charity/thrift shops have boxes full and almost have to give them away, and if you ask on FreeCycle you'll usually get something comparable.

Virtually all of my camera gear has come from FreeCycle. The original mju or mju 2 are far more common than your model and are both excellent, although the same cannot be said for all Olympus compacts. The original fully manual Trip is superb, but the later models of the same name are poor. The XA and XA2 are excellent (especially the XA), but the later XA's aren't much good. If you want to try non Olympus models, then one astonishingly overlooked and underrated model is the Canon SureShot Classic 120. It's really high quality, has the option of spot metering, and the lens is simply incredible. They weren't produced in massive numbers but aren't rare either.

One other benefit of having a broken camera like yours is that you now have nothing to lose at all in trying to dismantle and find the problem yourself. It's unlikely you'll be successful, but you will gain invaluable experience to carry forward to your next repair attempt. You won't find any servicing manuals for the reasons given before, so will just have to use patience and common sense.

What type of paper does the printer use?

It is photographic finish paper. It has a glossy finish and is sold in many office supply stores. It retails for about 10-12 cents per sheet. See:

What type of film would I use for a dakota rz 2000 35mm ? And do you think that its worth 80 dollars?

The camera itself uses standard 35mm film. You choose the "film speed" according to what you intend to use the camera for, but ISO200 is easy to obtain and good for most things.

The Dakota RZ-2000 is simply awful. It's a very cheaply made design and suffers from really poor build quality and has dreadful, image-blurring and very noisy mirror slap. Th lenses it was originally supplied with were also of inferior quality. I personally wouldn't buy it at any price, but it's certainly not worth $80 when better quality, major name (but older) 35mm models are now effectively often worthless and can be obtained for nothing on FreeCycle and Freegle. I get all of my 35mm equipment from there. Recently I've even had perfect, boxed and near-unused Nikon and Canon Autofocus models, but I personally prefer the older manual focus SLR's such as the excellent Olympus OM1n.

I got an Olympus IS-10 from my grandfather and I want to take it on a trip to California, but for some reason it won't take a picture. None of the problem lights flash and it just makes this stalling...

The shutter has failed. The camera cannot be repaired as spares are as common as fresh **** ****. If it's any consolation, they weren't one of Olympus's better efforts and you can easily obtain a proper 35mm SLR with lenses for free (via FreeCycle/Freegle) or very cheaply (online auction websites).

Shooting out film

Unfortunately you have a broken camera and it's not really fixable. There are plenty of free/cheap examples on FreeCycle and in thrift/charity shops but as you've discovered to your cost there's only one rather expensive way to find out whether they work...

Photos are so soft

My best advice to you, assuming you haven't got a real problem with the focusing mechanisms in your cameras, is to downsize your images by half in each dimension (e.g., 1280 x 1024 -> 640 x 512) for viewing. At that resolution the images should look as sharp and crisp as any you've seen. Remember that sample photos you find on the net are usually the cream of the crop, and what most people publish has been processed in their digital darkrooms.
