Push down the tab and lift off the battery cover on the back of the calculator.

To replace the four AAA batteries, simply pull them out and put in new ones, following the polarity indicators. To replace the backup battery, unscrew the cover, pull out the battery, put in the new one, and replace the cover.

TI 82 Does it need the disk battery and 4 AAA batteries to work?

No. The calculator runs on the four AAA batteries. The lithium battery is solely to retain the contents of the memory while you change the AAA batteries. If you don't care about retaining the memory, you don't need the lithium battery. You do, however, need the AAA batteries to use the calculator.

I have replaced both the 4 AAA batteries and the cr1620 battery and the TI-82 will still not turn on. What else can I try?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

This happens alot with calculators that have been in storage for a while, you can fix this by taking the batteries out and let it sit overnight.

TI-82

try this, try reseting the calculator blind. hit 2nd then + then 7 then 1 then 2. That's how you reset it on an 83,84,89 and so on. if you have a friend see how he resets his 82 and try it the same way. It could just be that your screen is ruined. this can happen if it gets alot of pressure in a back pack. GOOD LUCK

TI-82 Screen Not Working or Black

Try a hard reset. Take out all the batteries, and while putting them back in, hold down the "DEL" key. Then, turn it back on and you can adjust the contrast by pressing the "2nd" key and the down arrow at the same time. I just got this info. online and it finally worked for me...good luck!

TI-82 WANT COME ON

If you haven't tried this already, adjust the brightness (2nd + Up Arrow). Also, the backup battery, which is removed by unscrewing a small plastic panel in the battery compartment, may need to be replaced as well.
