Thank you, but I checked and no paper is in the printer.

I tried to move the roller over to the middle but it didn't move. Can I push it hard and not break it? Thank you for your help but I wasn't able to move it.

Either there is something stuck in the paper path on the left side. Or one of the pickup rollers aren't turning, there usually is two pickup rollers in this type of printer. They are used to straighten out the paper during feeding. There is also most likely two sensor used to determine if the paper is straight. If there is paper stuck in one of the sensor the printer might not turn it's coresponding roller. Or the paper just might be getting stuck on an obstruction. It is sometimes difficult to see if anything is stuck in the paper path. I would suggest opening all the doors on the printer and use a flash light and can of compressed air to try to dislodge anything that may be in there. It might not even be a peice of paper, I've seen thumb tacks, paper clips, even toy cars stuck inside printers.

There is also sometimes a clear peice of mylar film that is used to help guide the paper and to avoid grabbing multiple sheets. I've seen that plastic get pulled out after a jam then causing more jams afterwards. Look down inside the paper tray and look at the rollers, if you see a clear plasting strip sticking up you may need to push it down.

If all else fails, for the price of all-in-one printers these days, and if I'm correct your X4270 cost you less than $100, I would consider replacing the printer. I would consider something from Epson, Canon, or HP, as Lexmark has not always been known for exceptional reliability in it's low cost printers.

If you are certain that there is nothing stuck in the printer than your only other solution is to replace the printer as no one will repair it for you, it isn't worth it.

Dear jamie
Your paper sensor is dis-placed from the original position, you have to open it and see for any breakage, it is better that you ask some professional to open your printer if you are not very comfortable with opening printers

Please try to re- adjust the roller which is responsible for the paper feeding,

if the roller is dis-aligned, what you are experiencing right now is the effect.

It might still have some paper left inside the loading mechanism.
I would suggest to open it and inspect all the moving parts as well for a worn out condition.

The paper keeps jamming, I cant see anything in the way. any help is appreciated.

If paper doesn't feed correctly when printing, remove it and fan the edges of the paper to separate the sheets. Reload the paper against the right side and slide the edge guide against it. Do not load too many sheets at once.
If paper has jammed: 1. Press x Start to eject the jammed paper. 2. If paper is still jammed, gently pull it out from the output tray or sheet feeder. If paper is stuck inside, press the P On button to turn off the printer. Then lift the scanner, remove the jammed paper and torn pieces, close the scanner, and turn the printer back on.
If documents don't feed correctly in the Automatic Document Feeder, make sure the corners of the paper are not bent, folded, or curled up. Do not load more than 10 sheets of legal-size paper at a time. If documents have jammed: 1. Open the ADF cover and pull any paper out to the left. Caution: Do not try to remove the paper without opening the ADF cover first, or you could damage the mechanism. 2. Select Yes or press OK to clear any messages on the display screen. 3. Reload the paper.

My Brother HL 5250DN printer has started making a loud clicking sound when it tries to feed paper for printing. It then stops and the paper light starts flashing.

Clear the jammed paper as follows.
Observe Cautions signs in printer.
Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and prevents paper jams.
1. Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.
2. Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. The jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
3. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.
4. Close the front cover.
5. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.
6. Open the front cover again.
7. Open the back cover.
8. Pull the tabs at the left and right hand sides toward you to open the fuser cover (1).
9. Using both hands, gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
10. Close the back cover.
11. Pull the duplex tray completely out of the printer.
12. Pull the the jammed paper out of the printer or the duplex tray. Put the duplex tray back in the printer.
13. Push down the blue lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Clear the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
14. Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically.
15. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer.
16. Put the paper tray firmly back in the printer.
17. Close the front cover.
18. Make sure that the Paper LED is now off and the printer is ready.
After clearing paper jam if noise persist printer may need a Repair Tech and parts replacement for broken or wore parts.

Paper pulls to the right, jams, won't print, tried different paper still won't print

Hi,
Sounds like the feed rollers need cleaning.
Clean the feed rollers, lint free cloth, bottled water.
wait for them to properly dry

Revolve the feed roller bar as you clean them, to clean the feed rollers all the way round, remove all particles from them.

Check you ADF grips are set correctly, if not you will get mis-fed sheets. check the tray is sat properly too or mis-feeds.

Check paper size is correct in print properties too.
Should be good then
Try print.

Regards
Richard.

PAPER JAMMED-PRINTER HL5150D

Hello a_bowen1

You can clear the jammed paper as follows.

If the jammed paper is removed completely by using the information in the following steps, you can install the paper tray first, and then close the front cover and the printer will resume printing automatically.

If the printer does not start printing automatically, press the Go button. If the printer still does not start printing, please check that all the remaining jammed paper has been removed from the printer. Then try printing again.
Note
    • If a paper jam occurs when using the optional lower tray unit, check for correct installation of the upper paper tray.
    • Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the printer at one time and reduces paper jams.
  1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.

  1. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer.
chap0614.gif
  1. Press the cover release button and then open the front cover.
hl50_069.gif
  1. Pull out the drum unit assembly. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer. If you cannot remove the drum unit assembly easily at this time, do not use extra force. Instead, pull the edge of the jammed paper from the paper tray. If the jammed paper can not be pulled out easily, turn the jam dial towards you as you gently pull the paper out.
hl50_05712.gif Caution
To prevent damage to the printer caused by static electricity, do not touch the electrodes shown below.
hl50_046.gif
  1. Open the face-up output tray. Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit. If the paper jam can be cleared, go to Step 7.
Note
If you have to pull the paper toward the back of the printer, the fuser may get dirty with toner powder and it may scatter on the next few printouts. Print a few copies of the test page until the scattering of toner stops.
chap0615.gif Caution
After you have just used the printer, some internal parts of the printer are extremely hot! Wait for the printer to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the printer.
hl50_058a.gif
  1. Open the jam clear cover. Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
hl50_059.gif
  1. Close the jam clear cover. Close the face-up output tray. If the paper jam still cannot be cleared, for HL-5130 and HL-5140 users go to Step 10, and for all other users go to the next step.
  1. Pull the Duplex Tray completly out of the printer.
hl50_065.gif
  1. Pull the jammed paper out of the printer or the Duplex tray. Put the Duplex tray back into the printer.
chap0634.gif
  1. Push the lock lever down and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit assembly. Take out the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.
Put the toner cartridge into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the lock lever will lift automatically.
hl50_047.gif Caution
To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded part shown in the illustration.
If you accidentaly touch the shaded part, wipe the surface with a dry lint-free soft cloth.
drum_5100.gif
  1. Put the drum unit assembly back in the printer.
  1. Put the paper tray in the printer.
  1. Close the front cover.

Good Luck and don't forget to leave a rating based on my solution:

Printer 2480- my printer is pulling paper only on right side

Try this :

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Paper wont feed propaly

Something probably fell into that tiny pinch of an area where the paper goes. I have found everything from a Tostito crumb to a chip of drywall blocking my paper feed. Flip your machine over, poke it if you have to, and shake it around til the little bugger falls out.
