Please check the scanner unit and see if there is a paper jam, if there is clear that out.
This should help to fix your problem.

Hi,
Thanks for using Fixya.
Follow the steps given int his Link to clear paper jam.

Try using compressed air to clean the surfaces where the printer might be detecting a jam. Also might be a stuck plastic toggle switch where the paper passes over it.

Close the scan unit it locks into place.
Now turn off the printer and remove all contacts from power and computer. Restart the computer and now re-connect all the cords of the printer. The error should disappear.
Good luck and have a nice day.

I keep getting a black line about 2 inches along the right side of the paper if copying as well any faxes sent are also getting that blac line. Brother fax machine intel 4750e

Well you said the Lines are present when you are copying and when you are sending from the fax unit. Copying and sending functions both uses the scanning unit. What you lift open the document feeder for original documents. In there you should see rollers and a glass. clean this glass with cotton swab and alcohol for left to right the entire glass. Close the unit and try copying or sending, documents should now be clean.

The scanner keeps jamming. i try to scan form the document feeder &the papers keep getting stuck. It will not complete a scan!what do i do?

In summary: * Very unintuitive, convoluted and unpleasant to use (same on Win2K as XP) - sometimes the SW hangs during scan and needs a reboot - sometimes the SW crashes with a dialogue "try reinstalling HP software", and needs a reboot - sometimes it scans and after conversion to pdf
Advantages: I cannot see any advantages with this product
Disadvantages: Software is convoluted and unreliable, paper jams are difficult to clear

function showHideReviewText( sType ) { if ( sType == 'more' ) { document.getElementById( 'review_text_full' ).style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById( 'review_text_short' ).style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById( 'review_title_link' ).onclick = function() { showHideReviewText('less'); }; } else { document.getElementById( 'review_text_full' ).style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById( 'review_text_short' ).style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById( 'review_title_link' ).onclick = function() { showHideReviewText('more'); }; } } ...with a dialogue "try reinstalling HP software", and needs a reboot
- sometimes it scans and after conversion to pdf every page is blank
- very occasionally it scans a document properly
*If the sheet-feeder jams is says to refer to the documentation to clear it, which doesn't exist. There is no way to clear the jam except to pull hard & hope. No levers to release it like one would expect.
*Frequently has error ...
...cycled to work again.

Everything has to be started by pressing a button on an application called "HP Director". There are 4 apps started from this:
1) Scan Picture
2) Scan Document
3) Make Copies
4) View & Print
also Help
also Settings (which are used in conjunction with settings found in (1) and (2)!)
- Each application has to be exited to return to "HP Director"
its a worst scanner
and prone to jamming problem

When trying to fax I get an error "open adf cover"...

You should be able to. It sounds like you've got a paper jam in the document feeder. Chances are there was a jam and part of the document (a small peice perhaps) is still lodged in the document feeder unit.

Printer jam

unplug the printer from the computer , disconnect the black box the power adapter from the back panel of the printer , turn the printer upside down and then gently tab on the printer . Clean and manually roll the paper tray rollers . open the printer cover and look for any obstructions , remove the cartridges and clean them using a damp soft cloth .put back the power adapter and try to copy something , if it still displays the same error msg then its an issue with the printer and you need to purchase a new one.

Do lemme you if it helps.
