You can just check it
click on start menu, click on run , type cmd , then type ipconfig
check out the ip address it should be anything other that 169.xx.xx . if you get anything say ipconfiguration . then you may click on start , click on run , type devmgmt.msc . check whether there is any yellow question or exclamation symbols . if there is any try to install the network drivers

Can you tell me the default IP address for this unit as I have lost the pass word and need to reset the unit

If your computer is plugged into the router, you can easily get the router's IP address by going to your command prompt and typing "ipconfig" without the quotes.

Command Prompt is under Start (or Orb if using Win7 or Vista) > All Programs > Accessories

After typing "Ipconfig" and hitting return, command prompt should display something like this:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : blah.blah.comcast.net.
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.196
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Ethernet adapter PdaNet Broadband Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

The router's address is your "Default Gateway." You should be able to put that address into an Internet Explorer window and it will bring up the configuration interface.

I have a DHG536C Cable modem from Comcast. I am using a Linksys Switch, EZS88W, and the modem can see one computer but nothing eles, what is wrong?

Have you connected all computers, then switched off the switch and modem. now switch off your computers.
If you then power everything up, it should detect the computers, and assign them the correct IP addresses.
If your still having problems, you may need to assign static ip addresses (google for instructions for your computers/switch)

How can I my up my comcast netgear modems wireless to work? when I try my PS3 it detects a sginal but wont obtain an IP address. The same with my lap top.

You have to change the ipddress on the router different then the modem. For example 192.168.9.1 and leave the modems ip alone. Plug the cable into the Lan port of the router. Go to the setup screen on the router and tell give your username and password that
Comcast gives you. You will need comcast gateway address and dns numbers. There will be a connect button on the router and tell it connect it to the modem. You are trying to let the router receive that only ip address.

BelkinMIMO wireless router stopped connecting to internet

I just installed a Belkin N1 (model F5D8635-4 v1000) to a Comcast Arris modem in SW Florida by resetting the IP on the router to 192.168.1.1 Comcast assigns 198.168.0.1 (but will accept 192.168.1.1 however not .2.1) and Belkin default is 192.168.2.1. Problem is easy enough to correct by following the instructions for changing the default router IP using a Firefox interface as documented in the user's manual. Note that when applying changes it takes about 30 seconds for changes to be effective.

169 IP address just happened and now have limited to no connectivity use comcast as a provider It's a dell 2300 dimension help

This is a common networking occurrence. This is called APIPA. See this link: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/APIPA.html APIPA is an IP address which is assigned when no other address is available. Whatever Windows version you have, this will work if it's above Windows 95. Click on the Start menu, choose "Run", type in "cmd.exe" once you get a command prompt, type in "ipconfig /release", then "ipconfig /renew". This will release the APIPA address and attempt to get a valid address. Hope this helps.

Ip address fails test connection

you need to set your 360's network to automatically detect your settings if you have other devices hooked up to the airport and they work it is not the Airport.

When it says IP address failed it has nothing to do with comcast it is your LAN having issues not your WAN

Dell Dimension DE051:Wireless Internet Problem (Can't Load Sites)

contact Comcast and have them reset your IP address. also have them ping your modem after they reset IP.
Also, see Linksys website for LELA (easylink advisor) to add devices to network. Uses a good bit of memory so don't allow to run automatically at start up.
