Question about Apple MacBook Pro Notebook

Wireless downloads at very low transmit rate

I'm trying to download a trial version of QuarkXpress 7.3 via my Airport wireless. I'm using various hotspots (Internet cafes, or even piggy-backing on any available wireless) around Plymouth City centre. All appears well at first and the download progresses as normal. But then the transmit rate hits something like 240 KB/sec and rapidly deteriorates to a ridiculous 0.5 KB/sec. Even when I plug in using an ethernet cable the result is the same. Now, after about 15 attempts, I have given up trying to download anything from the internet. Can you help?  Thanks

Thank you, I appreciate that reply. It had been suggested to me that the problem could be with the Quark website, although I get the same result trying to download from whichever website - but only with fairly large files. As it is, I have the software now, and via my own MBP, but with a file size of over 350 mb you can imagine just how long it took. And that's not all, the evaluation version I managed to download in the end won't install on my computer! Problems, problems, problems...
Still, thank you again for trying.

Could it be the website that is hosting the file?  Have you tried to download it with a different computer?

Can i download from the internet onto my laptop and then to my phone without using a usb cable?

Yes! you can download your files to your laptop as normal, then connect your laptop and phone via a bluetooth connection... The bluetooth menu is next to the airport menu on the desktop.
Simply set your laptop and phone to communicate (similar to setting up a bluetooth headset). Then look on the desktop for a drive or folder icon with your phone name. then install the files in the correct folder.

I f I connect hotel internet via Apple USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter to my MacBook Air, internet after few minutes disconnected, to connect again i take out the cable, and then plug in, usually internet start...

Try turning off Airport. Your computer may be finding a wireless network and automatically switching to it, and getting an intermittent signal. Just a guess, but for a good ethernet connection you want to disable the Airport searching feature anyway.
Open the System Preferences application, select "Network" and right on the top left of the resulting window there's a pretty big button that will either say "Turn Airport On" or "Turn Airport Off" - just turn it off if it's not already ...

Hope this helps!

Won't connect to internet via wifi anymore

When the power gets low, it will do silly things like turn off wireless to save battery. Prolly you just have to turn it back on. Click the airport symbol in the upper right hand area of your screen. Looks like a triangle made out of curved lines. A menu will drop down and one of the options will be "Turn Airport on". Click that.

Will not connect to internet via airport

Start from scratch. Go back to your main computer and create a USB key and try that way.

Wondering, is your MAc setup for wireless?

Another thought, i had the same issue connecting my Mac to my parents wireless. I used the installation disc and that solved that.

No longer searches for internet signal/connection.

In the upper left corner of screen click blue apple -> location -> automatic , also you can look at Applications->Internet Connect.
Side note - if you are using other people's wireless without their express consent, this is now on the law books as illegal and they are beginning to prosecute more and more people for this very thing, it is simple enough for them to catch you as well. It would be much less expensive in the long run to purchase legal internet services.
