My monitor stops displaying but the on LED is still on. I turn it of and on again. It displays but after some time (10-20 seconds) it stops displaying again. I switch it off and on again. it keeps on doing this tedious routine again and again.

Have you tried checking with another monitor. Meaning that if the second monitor does not come on then the problem is with your computers mother board. But if the monitor other monitor you check it with comes on then of course it is your monitor.
If you don't use an identical monitors, then they may not work if your video card can not handle them. The "check video cable" it means the monitor does not get a signal, and it does not mean that the monitor is a problematic monitor. You can test this monitor as a single monitor (and try to connect it using first video port, and then move it to the second video port).
this is usually a short that reacts to heat. as it runs and warms up it shorts, then it cools, etc, etc.
I would just replace the monitor. With the black friday deals you should be able to get a flat screen for under a hundred dollars.
best of luck
If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have
a picture for five sec again it sound like the power supply in the
monitor. but if that did not solve the problem, the
picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few
seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the
board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.
advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to
solve the problem of the blank screen.
Hi , The monitor flicker problem. The monitor when turn on will display image for couple of second then turn black. The monitor status led is still green. This will happen each time it is turn on. The symptom at appear to come from the inverter board.
Normally when this type of problem happens, the first suspect would be the inverter board, then the filter capacitors and lastly the mainboard.
A defect in one of the lamps and faulty inverter IC may cause the display to shutdown as well. If the lamp is defective, it will send a feedback and cause it to stop producing output signal thus the display just shut off once you switch in ON.
