Question about Fanner SPIRE Aluminium GigaPod External 3.5" HD Enclosure - USB2 (CF100NEB) Drive Case

I have a Fanner SPIRE Aluminium Gigapod External 3.5" external hard drive linked to my Windows XP laptop but the link up between the two has recently become increasingly slower as has the response of the external hard drive. Some weeks ago a few of the files became unreadable but I recovered these by running windows scan disc. This week some new files also became unreadable but when I ran scan disc it detected the faults but couldn't repair them because it said there was not enough disc space, there is currently 36 gig free on the hard drive and 28 gig free on the laptop. A friend then advised me to run c cleaner using the wipe free space facility which I did, since doing this my laptop no longer links to the external hard drive - the lights are flashing on the hard drive and the activity light is flashing on the computer but there is no link. Any suggestions?

The hard disk inside that Spire case has died - running the free space clean from CCleaner (a very intensive procedure) has been the death blow to an already sick disk.. Nothing more can be done to save it and the data on it. Replace it with a new one.

1. This could be due to several things.
a. The power supply for the external drive is not working properly
b. A broken power supply connector.
c. The USB drive was disconnected improperly > that is not disconnected safely in Windows
d. The external drive controller in the USB case is defective. A new case is needed.

What is your problem specifically? Is it that there is no hard disk detected when you try to install windows xp?

Try using third party software to detect the hard disk on your laptop
Try this link. It will basically give you your hard drive driver while installing windows xp. You will also need an external floppy disk drive if you dont have diskette drive in your laptop.

I havea seagate 500gb external hard disk, when i connect it wth the laptop the hard disk is not recognised on my laptop. i have windows xp professional installled in my laptop


Click on the link below and then click on the "Fixit" button. Windows has a patch for all external devices not recognized by PC's including HD's. This is especially an issue for those who've recently installed SP3. Best of luck with your problem.

do you have a drive for your external hard drive when you bought it? windows vista is very delicate operating system. some manifacture products can't not be recognized by windows vista.
