How about the wiring to the 24v coil?
    How about dirty contacts?

i found a black loose wire.

  • aroyan Jul 18, 2010

    THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT HOT.
THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE IN THE WIRING.
THERE WAS A BROKEN BLACK WIRE AT THE CONTACTOR.
I ATTACHED IT TO THE CONTACTOR.
THE CONTACTOR DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING.
WHEN THE THERMOSTAT IS ON IT LOCKS UP THE CONTACTOR. WITHOUT THE THERMOSTAT BEING ON,
THE FAN CAN BE TURNED ON BY PUSHING ON THE ACTUATOR OF THE CONTACTOR.

Hi, the compressor should feel warm while running. If you find the fan running and not the compressor, feel the compressor and see if it is hot, it may burn you. If it is, it is locked up and needs to be replaced. I believe those units have only one contactor meaning both the fan and compressor are energized at the same time. If the fan is running without the compressor, the compressor is probably bad. You need to make sure filters are changed on a regular basis and the indoor coil is clean. You need to have the technician (after compressor replacement) do a thorough job checking the pressures and temps of the refrigerant after it has run for at least 30 mins. If the compressor died that quick there is something wrong in your system causing it to go out.

Take care

Hi,

If the fan is running but the compressor is not kicking in. There are two things that may cauce this.

1. The unit may be low on refrigerant.

2. The compressor migth be too hot or the compressor is bad.

Check the unit that is going into the refrigerant if it is normal.

Off the air condition and let the compressor to cool. If after cooling the compressor does not kick then you have a bad compressor and you should replace the compressor with a good one.

Thanks.

Hi,
If the fan is running and not the compressor then you have and issue with the compressor. Either the compressor is locked up and will not start or the capacitor has gone bad ans will not give the compressor enough "kick" to get it started.
I would replace the capacitor first and make sure that it is not the more exspensive problem. If the Cap. does not get it working then you have compressor issues...that could include a refrigerant leak or just simply that the compressor has worn out.

How to trouble shoot heat/ a/c fan switch.

Will your blower fan kick on in the medium position by chance? Med/ med high..if it is a 4 position switch, does it operate in the number 3 position? If so it is probably your blower motor resistor. If not, I would test the blower motor itself. Since the compressor kicks on when you turn the fan on, I would think the switch is working.

Compressor runs and gets hot but fan will not kick on. Replaced the capacitor and that did not help. One side of coils gets hot, the other side gets cold, which seems normal. Just can't get the fan...

Don't run the compressor for any length of time without the fan operating. Is it possible that the fan must be replaced? Can you power the fan safely to test it?

Replaced run cap, motor windings ohm out good, condenser fans work. when i power up unit the compressor overload trips after 5-6 seconds

Probably locked rotor. This happens sumetims when the connecting rod breaks or seizes up on the crank shaft. Seperate your power cord ar some point so that you can put an amp meter around just one of the hot wires. It should be 10.2 amps maximum. I think you will see it spike to 25 amps for 2 to 3 seconds when the compressor tries to start. That almost immediately kicks out the overload. This compressor is not rebuildable. so it will require a new one if it is what I think.

My frost free refrigerator doest not cool. the bi-metal thermostate has been replaces 3 times and the timer once. what to do? my e-mail address is royanil@hotmail.com

If your fan is running inside the fzr and the fan under the bottom ck and make sure the coils are clean under the fridge. If all of the above are working and the coil is clean make sure the black cardboard piece is covering the back side this directs air from the front across the coils and exits by the fan. Then the only thing left is loss of freon in the system. Make sure the compressor is kicking in when you turn it on you will hear it hummm and it will be warm to the touch. If the compressor is not kicking in then I would suspect the starter relay under the plastic cap on the compressor its the size of a nickle and is connected to one of the 3 prongs coming out of the compressor. unplug you fridge before handling the elect parts. good luck

Hello, I have haier ac. It suddenly stop cooling and working like fan. I do not know anything about ac. How can I check if there is something wrong.

If the fan is running but its just room temp air your compressor is not running. You can usually hear the compressor kick in and hum. If its an older unit it may be the capacitor or a melted wire. The wires are easy they are mostly located behind the access plate that the switches are hooked to just take the plate off and look for burnt ends or melted wires. replace or trim wires buy a wire connector kit from a hardware store. If the wires are fine it may be the start capacitor for the compressor or the wires going into the compressor ck them first. The capacitor is a grey or silver metal can or oval can with writing with 5uf 330v (approxamately) on it for the fan and 35uf 440v )approxamately) for the compressor. You can ck the capacitor yourself but do not touch the ends a capacitor stores voltage I usually ground them together with a screw driver to cancel out the voltage. If you have or buy a volt/ohm meter you can put it on ohms (buy it at most hardware stores 10 to 15 dollars for a cheap one) then touch the meter leads to each terminal on the capacitor after 15 seconds switchthem the meter will slowly build up to 5 or 35uf. Be careful and make sure the AC is unplugged respect the electricity. good luck
