AO Smith Pool Pump Motor Hayward Swimming Pool Pump Full Rated Motor / Cen Logo

This June, I had to replace my strainer housing on my Hayward Power-Flo Matrix pump. It cracked in cold weather before I remembered to remove it. On installing a replacement, I noticed that the pump showed a small stream of water leaking below the impeller housing. My pool rep, said replace the seal. I did so, and after installation, it leaked in the same place. Now, I remembered I had a spare motor (2 years old) in my basement. I installed the backup, with the new strainer housing. Guess what, the backup leaks in the same place. That's 2 motors, one with a new ceramic seal assembly, and both leak in the same place. Hayward tech help is of no help. Anyone out there with an idea? Thanks, ndmc

One or more of a couple issues is at play here. First would be the seal replacement. Even if you used the correct seal if you touched the surfaces or failed to install it properly it can and will leak. Second, inspect the housing around the seal fit and the stem of the impeller for cracks. A hairline crack is enough when placed under pump operating pressure to allow a leak. Somewhere in there is your solution.

Testimonial: "John: Hi! Thanks...maybe it could be the surface was touched....and maybe the spare motor had a worn seal. The fact that both were leaking in exactly the same place is a mystery. I took the motor I worked on to the pool vendor for an exam. Thanks for your feedback...it was helpful. ndmc"

Closed and opened shut off valve to strainer housing basket, no water in strainer, how do you know if shut off knob actually opened or just broke the knob?

if the basket fills with water once you open the strainer lid then the valve is opening properly. If you open the valve and the strainer lid but you see no water flowing in then you can believe that the valve is not opening and needs to be fixed or replaced.

Removing the lid from a hayward power-flo matrix

Too Much Pressure????
Are you trying to remove lid when the pump is on? NO, NO, NO

If not, then good! If you have valves before and after the equipment, then close them. Then remove the small 1/4" drain plug to empty the pot. Then try removing the lock ring and open it up.

I am installing a 1592SP Power-Flo Matrix pump and I cannot seem to press the positioning button (it does not depress) to rotate the discharge port. I have taken off the strainer housing, but no matter...

I just went out and did mine. My button didn't depress at all at first. While trying to push the button in, jiggle the discharge both ways; the button will move in and the housing rotates very easily.

Where is the button to turn the discharge from vertical to horizontal? The manual states to "simply push the positioning button and rotate" - can't seem to locate the button!

Press the positioning button located on pump housing and rotate discharge port to desired position.

Note: the Discharge port will only rotate 1/4 turn.

Hayward Matrix Power Flo

On the right side, usually opposite the discharge. You may need to use a butterknife of flat head to push it in; push in and turn.
