Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner
I have a Duo Therm Model 59116.502 [about 1995] and the compressor seems to stall when when thermostat is turned on. Fan runs fine. Bypassing the control brd and applying power direct to compressor the unit runs fine. Is this an indication that I need a new control brd or would you recommend a new unit in light of its' age?

I suspect that you have a bad selector switch for the on, off, low fan, high fan operation. If the selector switch is put into the off position everything should stop completely.

you have to run a contractor grade extension cord(10-12 gauge) from your rv to run those or theyll do that, the lower the gauge the better, best bet is to plug the rv directly into the outlet, if you cant, get the shortest and thickest extension cord you can.

I don't think these little units have a start capacitor but what I would do is check that the on/off switch wires to make sure they aren't loose. Also check the wires to the compressor for loose wires as well. It is possible that these are the first signs that the compressor is about to fail. They also can act up some when they haven't been used for awhile and then you try and start them up. Try running the unit for a few hours without asking it to cycle. It might just be a sticky valve.
