try playing the sound file with other media players, if still not playing reinstall ur audio driver either by dowloading the driver from internet or by installing it from ur driver cd.
if ur audio device driver is integrated or plug n play device then,
step 1:open control panel
step 2:open 'sound speech and audio devices'
step 3: in the property menu of audio devices select drivers from the tab
step 4:select uninstall driver.
step 5: restart ur computer and the audio device will be reinstalled.
if it is the problem with ur windows media player, then step 1:select option/preferences from the menu.
step 2:select devices from the tab.
step 3:test all the devices by selecting each one at a time to play ur sound file.

My sound won't work (resident on motherboard). I have updated the realtek HD audio driver, and it seems that everything is enabled. I installed Ventrilo recently, and it would allow me to use my headset on...

If your computer doesn't have sound, the problem may be with the sound devices, which are programs that allow your computer to process audio output. Errors may occur if your sound devices need to be updated or if you reinstalled your operating systemmag-glass_10x10.gif without backing up the sound devices. You can fix the problem once you know the default sound devices for your computer and which company manufactures them.
    1. 1 Open your Web browser and navigate to the Realtek website.
    2. Step 2 Click on "Downloads."
    3. Step 3 Realtek offers a list of three types of codecs, which are: High Definition Audio Codecs (Software); AC'97 Audio Codecs (Software); and RTL8100B(L)/RTL8100C(L)/RTL8101L/RTL8139C(L)
RTL8139C(L)+/RTL8139D(L)/RTL8100(L) and RTL8130/RTL8139B(L)(Software). Click on the type of codecs you want to install. For example, if your computer needs "High Definition Audio Codecs," then click on the that item on the list to be directed to those codecs.
    4. Step 4 If prompted, read the Realtek disclaimer and click on the box beside "I accept to the above" and then click on "Next."
    5. Step 5 Click on the name of your operating system. Windows and Unix (Linuxmag-glass_10x10.gif) are the only choices.
    6. Step 6 Find the sound device you need for your computer and click on "Go" in the row beside it to download the software.
    7. Step 7 Click on "Save" to save the file to a location in your computer or click on "Run" to download and install it simultaneously. This should finish your sound device installation.

Audio is not working for P5SD2-VM motherboard...

You probably need Microsoft UAA drivers first
    1) Remove any installed audio drivers through device manager
    2) Download Microsoft UAA drivers for your O/S
    3) Install them and reboot
    4) go to device manager right click sound and update driver
It will go on the net and in most cases find and install them

    No Audio Output Device Installed

    Hi

To immediately fix these errors in Vista, start the Windows Audio service as follows:
    1. Click Start c00834869.gif , and enter services.msc into the Start Search field.
    2. From the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start . Figure 23: Starting the Windows Audio service c00847914.gif
    3. The message should no longer open. If the message opens again after the computer is restarted, repeat these steps, select Properties for Windows Audio and set Startup Type to Automatic.
If you have XP on the computer, then click Start-->Run and then type "services.msc" in the Run window and then click OK and once you get the Windows Services screen, follow the above steps.
If this doesnt work and the sound card is not onboard or integrated, then reseat the sound card preferably into a different slot and repeat the above steps.
