Question about Acer Aspire 5610-4648 Notebook

Computer not recognizing any usb devices

Okay, i have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop with vista home edition as the os. The problem im having is that whenever i plug any device into the computer on any usb port, an error messege comes up saying "USB Device Not Recognized". It then proceeds to download drivers automatically as it should, but the drivers say that they are unknown. Any help or suggestions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Derek

A short time ago i upgraded the ram on my computer to 4 GB (i know i sort of over did it). I have an AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile technology TL-50 running at 1.6 Ghz. Also, i attempted a reformat thinking it was a virus or somthing. That was not the case. Same problem still arises. It recognizes that somthing is in the usb port, but doesnt recognize what it is. i have confirmed that the devices are not broken because i plugged them into a different computer and they work fine. Frustrating...

Sorry for the lack of information. To further clarify i have 2686 mb of installed memory. The Model of laptop is acer aspire 5100. The main circuit board is Acer Navarro with 200 megahertz

Well guys, i took my laptop into a computer repair specialist to have a look at it. He told me today that the circuit the USB's are on is fried. So, the easy fix for this is that they make a PCI card that has usb ports on the side of it. So hopefully that will do the trick. If not, the specialist said that i would have to have it sent in to get the motherboard replaced on it. If that is the case i think i will invest in a new computer, and have this one as a back up. But thank you all for your insight, it did help.

We'll get there. Clarification request from derek_rh. What kind of computer do you have? Specifically, what motherboard? You can find this out with no sweatski by downloading a superb free program called Belarc Advisor, which will inform you of every piece of hardware and software on your system with id numbers, sofware keys, versions, the whole shebang. Your motherboard may have a 2 or 3 MB limit!

first, do you have a dual core CPU, and how much memory is installed? Acer unloaded a bunch of laptops withough the hardware necessary to run Vista. Most agree that this power-mad program requres 2 GB of memory and dual-core--you might have 512 MB and an M-chip--if so, youare doomed to headaches and conflicts. Shame on Acer! (I speak from experience.)

Well, appears that your configuration can handle 4 GB of memory. I checked the Acer website for upgrades for your model, and nothing appears to jump out which could solve your problem. A few appear to be possibly helpful, but some are for XP, not Vista. Upgrading "launch manager" might be a good thing.

However, Belarc tells me that on my Acer 5630 i have listed under "Bus adapters" the following:
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC
And, under "other devices", i have a USB Root Hub (5x). Obviously, the two match. I go to device manager to check them out, finding them under 'univesal bus controllers", to see whether they are all working properly, and and they are. In addition, opening "system devices" reveals something called a "plug and play software device enumerator", and that checks out to be working fine as well. Check your equivalent out to see if you find a problem to fix. Hopefully you will. Let me know how things go.

This is interesting: posted elsewhere. Also, you need to check your Bios to be sure that the USB ports are on.

    I
have a v2555us and one-at-a-time, each usb port just stopped working.
When I plug anything into the ports, it tells me the device is not
recognized. I actually dealt with no USB ports for about 1.5 years
until about 3 weeks ago I got so fed-up that I plugged a mouse in and
unplugged it fast about 6 times in a row, and then left it in, and BAM
it worked like a charm. I tested it with other devices and tried the
other port. The other things worked but the other port didnt work, but
I did the same thing for the other USB port and it worked as well. Try
just plugging something into the port and unplugging it 6 or so times.
Maybe the contacts were dirty, maybe there was some sort of static
interference. Who knows.. im glad i have my USB ports back now!

Thanks for getting back. If you purchased it within 2 years ago, check to see if you used a credit card that doubles your warranty. I'm afraid I am very suspicious of the usb ports being "fried". It might be worth a second opinion-even from Acer. The motherboard can get fried from a crack originating where the recharger plugs directly into it--an idiotic design--but that has different symptoms (I lost a Sony Vaio that way--began rebooting faster and faster until it could never completely load. Because it was an electrical problem, Sony didn't charge me for diagnostics even though it was out of warranty.) At least call Acer to talk to a human (if you get someone who hasn't a clue, demand to speak with a supervisor--again from experience. Acer doesn't publicise their support number--availability period, 8:00 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. (CST), Monday through Friday, Acer Customer Service at
    (800) 816-2237. Let me know what happens.

Acer aspire 5100 BL51 windows 7 wireless driver

You will have to navigate this site; enter 'notebook', 'Aspire', and scroll to 5100; after that, you will have to choose 32 bit or 64 bit. That being said, Acer does not support Windows 7 yet-you can try the Vista drivers; more often than not they will work. One note-I cannot tell just from the info you supplied whether you have the Atheros or Broadcom chip-You should be able to determine that in Device Manager.

USB ports wont recognize anything I plug in

Are you using XP? If so:
Here is what you can do to refresh the USB ports:
1. Right click MY COMPUTER
2. Select PROPERTIES
3. Select HARDWARE
4. Select DEVICE MANAGER
5. Select UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS
6. Right click on each USB CONTROLLER and select Uninstall
7. Uninstall all entries
8. Reboot your computer
9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects
THEN, when all other USB items have been configured and connected by the system, you then should try connecting your USB device.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Acer notebook usb not recognized

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would guess that there is a bad connection between the usb's and the motherboard. If you are comfortable dismanteling the laptop and re-soldering the usb's than give that a try, but I would recomend you give it to a pro.

Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive

Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.

Hope this helps - remember to rate!

USB ports not working

I think the root issue of usb ports not working is a problem with your USB port's drivers no longer communicating with your computer. This often occurs when you install an update to your computer's operating system.
