Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever
heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it
is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them
to replace the part or just fix the TV?
Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.
read this if you think it's the same problem

THE RED LIGHT THAT BLINKS IS IT THE LAMP BOX THAT THE RED LIGHT BLINKS IN OR THE STAND BY LIGHT THAT BLINKS ? IF ITS THE LAMP BOX THAT BLINKS THEN YOUR LAMP HAS BLOWN AND NEEDS REPLACED YOU CAN FIND THE PART # FOR YOUR T.V. FOR A NEW OR REFURBISHED LIGHT IN YOUR OPERATING MANUAL AND WITH THE PART # BUY A NEW ONE OFF EBAY,ALSO YOUR OWNERS MANUAL WILL GIVE YOU STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REPLACE IT AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PROJECTION T.V.'S IF ITS THE STAND BY LIGHT THAT BLINKS I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES IT BLINKS AS THAT'S A SELF DIAGNOSTICS CODE THAT YOUR T.V. IS GIVING FOR THE PROBLEM AND FOR SONY THERESE NO CODE FOR 1 BLINK OF THE STAND BY LIGHT.

sounds like your optical block lenses has melted due to heat.
( common problem) here is the light engine/optical block number

This model also has a paper filter for the Optic block that should be changed. No one ever said anything about it. shortens the life of the optic block if not changed.

If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.
If the green light flashes and the picture comes on momentarily but then goes off, and the green button flashes until the set restarts, then the seal around the lamp mount is loose and needs to be refitted.
If the picture on your Grand Wega cuts in and out and the green standby light flashes, both of the set's STKs need to be replaced. STKs are small chips on your television's circuit boards and are identifiable by their labels. The specific STKs used in your Grand Wega TV will be identifiable by the numbered labels on top of the STKs.
When you plug in your Sony Wega and hear a loud popping sound, it's probably caused by a defect in the high-voltage circuit. Let the professionals take care of this one.
If, after turning on your Sony Wega, you can hear your set but the screen is black, you most likely need to replace your projection lamp.
