Hi,
Is this Sony KDF-E42A12U or any other model?
How old is this tv and when did you replace lamp last time?
I think lamp in tv is dead and need to be replaced but will confirm upon above info.
Thanks.

yes the model is KDF-E42A12U, the lamp was replaced about two weeks ago and i bought the tv in 2005, there is a neon red light on the front of this tv if the lamp goes, this is positioned just to the left of the indicator/stand by light. i have checked the lamp and this is in perfect working order so i am presuming it must be something else ?

Right, as you said, lamp has been tested and found OK.
Next thing is ballast supply that provides high voltage to lamp and lamp directly connected with it through its plug. Now if ballast fails, red power light will start blinking 3 times then pause and repeats.

But tv indicator shows problem with lamp itself as lamp light blinks on tv front. This is bit confusing situation so I would suggest to test ballast supply board as well by swapping it in another similar model tv.

thanks for your answer, to test the ballast supply, will i need to get an engineer out to rectify this and if so would it be a costly exercise to repair ?

It depends that you need an engineer, if you feel uncomfortable working inside tv than local tv repair shop option is good, they will check ballast supply and replace it for you, if required.
Usually ballast supply board costs $120 to $140 plus labor.
    Thanks.

Trying to replace lamp in HDTV and having trouble. Does not function correctly after putting in new bulb. Boots up and then visuals go black and the green power light keeps flashing. Help?

Panasonic DLP TV Bulbs

Make sure its an original Osram or Philips bulb inside the housing. If its a cheap lamp it will act this way. If it is an original lamp, then you may have a power supply issue. It shouldn't affect your TV but you may want to try resetting the lamp timer by following the instructions that came with the lamp.

TY-LA1001 Timer reset

While pressing the VOL- button on the projection display, hold down the number 0 button on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds.

Panasonic TX-L42S10B has power but won't turn on

ok, this may be a silly question but when you turn it on and it starts flashing red, have you tried pressing the stand-by button on the remote. if a tv has been put on stand-by by the remote, and is then switched off by the set, when the set is turned back on it is still in stand-by mode and you need to press the stand-by button on the remote.
other than that I don't know.

Hi.The signal lights red means the primary power of your tv is good and the signal lights green indicate the second power. If the green lights is flashing it means that they have shorted parts in the crt board.Maybe the problem is in the power section of the crt.Need for troubleshoot or repair the crt board.

Hi, We have a 42" hslc10668phz

generally when you get a constant green light all is ok. these different lights indicate different problems within the tv. so the pattern of lights you mention suggests there is a fault of some kind (is there a troubleshooting section in your manual)? either way it needs to be looked at.
