Question about Astra (ASTRAPRO) Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Single unit espresso machine, steamer and hot water spout work, can't make water come out of the center unit. There are four "automatic" buttons on top of the machine, I have tried unplugging in to "reboot" it. I tried to reset it to it's original factory settings by holding the brew/stop button down, then holding it for 10 seconds, but the green lights don't all come up as the manual says. Every time I try to make an espresso all I get is flashing red and yellow lights. Any idea?

The unit not being able to reboot is usually caused by water seeping to some parts where it is not supposed to be...try cleaning the unit thoroughly and try rebooting.
hope this solution is helpful?

thanks, but it didn't work. I think it's something to do with the programming, but I don't have a manual to figure out how to work it.

Trey -
It sounds as if the water pump has gone bad. If the machine will not put water out of the hot water spout or the steam spout, and there is no water in the base of the machine (leaking from pump) then the pump is not putting out any pressure. The sound you hear is the pump running - but no pressure behind it.

Problem with Miele CVA615 Espresso Machine Water

Frankly, there are things wrong that are beyond your scope, mainly because of the domino effect in small espresso machines no matter who makes them. There are multiple thermostats instead of a pressurestat, and on and on trying to replicate what a commercial machine does. In a machine like yours, the slightest failure of a gasket throws off everything. There is better containment of problems in commercial machines, but that too depends on what fails first.

My advice, if you are a home user, would be to get a manual pump machine , such as a Pavoni, (which I have lost respect for since they employed plastic pistons,) or if for a small cafe or bar, something like a semi-automatic job plumbed through a filter. Either way, in all honesty and that has cost me dearly, I warn you about this coffee business, because it is a science and an art.

It is not easy to make a good cup of coffee or espresso, especially.

Hello The lights on the front of the machine wont stop flashing so I can't press the cup symbols to make coffee. The hot water is coming out though through the steamer spout. Thanks!

Circuit Priming
When the machine operates for the first time and when
all the water has been dispensed, the machine circuit
needs priming. In this case, the 4 buttons of the control
panel will flash at the same time.
• Press the ON/OFF button . The 4 buttons will
flash.
• Place a container under the cappuccinatore.
• Open the "hot water/steam" knob by turning
it anticlockwise.
• Press the hot water button.
• Wait for water dispensing to stop.
• Close the "hot water/steam" knob by turning it
clockwise. Remove the container.
When the first priming ends, the warming up
starts. Before brewing coffee, water and steam,
please wait for lights 15 and 16 to be permanently on.
The machine is now ready to brew coffee and dispense
steam. Please see related sections for operating details.
Note: if priming is not completed, the 4 buttons
will keep on fl ashing. The machine cannot be
used.

The steamer on our Espresso machine is not working

Try using a paperclip or needle to clear out the holes on the end of the steam wand. That will usually work if when you turn on the wand it is hot to the touch and you can still get hot water from the coffee spout.

Starbucks Sirena. lights blink, won't heat.

johnshami had this solution on another post, and it worked for us:
  1. make sure the water in the tank is stone cold -- which is a no brainer since it will not heat h2o unless it's primed.
  2. take off steamer wand cover, turn the steamer knob clockwise till pump starts.
  3. then s*ck (as you would on a straw, with your lips sealed around the end of the steamer wand) the tip of the end of the metal tip hard until pump stops
  4. may need to do it a couple of times. yes this seems crazy, but it works! you are flushing out the vapor lock in the pump.

there is a filter that is attached (with a philips head screw) to the drip spout.  Unscew, "pry" the filter out, let soak in warm , soapy water for several hours and you should be ready to go1
