Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Signal Problems My NETgear WGR614 router seems to be causing me some problems!. Set it up (through virgin media) and got it working with my laptop (with the laptop next to the wireless router). So I took the laptop upstairs to its normal working space (use it more like a desktop), and it could not find the connection. So moved it closer and closer to where the router was downstairs, right up to when it was directly above it - still no connection. So took PC back downstairs, and it connected straight away. I left he PC on, took it upstairs, and it worked fine. Switched it off, rebooted, and it could not find a connection. Why is this? What can I do to make it work. The router is next to TV, we have a cast iron spiral staircase - would this effect it? Is there any way to get the signal to work upstairs. Even though it is not all that far away from the router (about 15ft to the room - but upstairs). Thanks

Try to bring another laptop to the location where you are having problem and see if the other laptop will have the same problem. if thats the case the problem is with the router. You can try upgrading the router's firmware or change the wireless channel

I keep getting a message to enter network password but i have tried putting the one in that virgin gave but it doesn't work

You will have to call Virgin Media for that. Tell them you need the network key for your wireless connection. There is possibility that they are giving you the password for your account.

Trying to conect laptop to virgin media with netgear wireless adaptor the signal is strong but could not conect windows say to contact provider provider gave me number to enter 192.168.0.1 now i am lost

The router is not connected to the internet via Virgin media.

Your computer is connected only to the router wirelessly, that is why it says contact your internet supplier on how to connect the router successfully!

I have bought a netgear WGR614-6 wireless router for my pc ,on Virgin broadband , but I got no set-up disc. Can I download anything to make it work. I am computer-thick so please tell me in VERY simple...

You don't need the cd. You can configure the router through the browser. Here's the manual link. The chapter easy setup and configuration will help you set it up without the cd.

Want to get more speed out o my fiberoptic broadand

Well the best router for your connection type would be WNR2000. Even Virgin media recommend this router for their 20 and 50 Meg connection. I am pretty confident that this router will meet your requirement with this ISP connection.

Hope this helps.

Need network key for NETGEAR (virgin) to connect

for that you have to access your router.
connect your router to computer with ehternet cable.
then access it with following link.
http://192.168.1.1
or http://192.168.0.1
type user as 'admin' and password as "admin" or blank or 'password'

then go to wireless security then you find WEP or WAP key there but it is in * or # format so you can't know it.
So you have to set new key so you can easily know it.
Then set new network key then save and restart the router then you can connect it with new key.
