Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 DVD Camcorder
Hi,have just upgraded to an applemac and have discovered software for our SonyDCR-DVD201E is only for windows.Any advice on software for applemac please?
Unfortunately, the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 DVD Camcorder is not compatible with the Mac OS X operating system at all.
However,if you have an Intel Mac computer or notebook and if you setup a Bootcamp partition install Windows XP, Vista or even Window 7 (if you have a copy), you could use the Mac's USB ports.
With a Windows OS of your choice on that Bootcamp partition you should be able to use the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 DVD Camcorder as if you were on a PC.
That is honestly the best way you can accomplish this on your Mac, as this camcorder is definitely not on Apple's iMovie '09 Camcorder Support list, which is the standard page to check various brands of Mac compatible Camcorders.
Here's that link:
To learn more about Bootcamp (if you have an Intel Mac) here is that link:
Without an Intel Mac computer or notebook, you will either have to invest in a new PC or research a Mac compatible camcorder. Be sure to use that link I provided above as a reference.

If the camera is firewire (1394) standard output, then just plug it and run
imovie from the applications directory or shortcut bar.

Use iMovie. You don't need special software to use those things on a Mac. iMovie will import the video right from the camera, and it comes with any Mac you purchase.

Hi, Well, congratulations on the new Mac upgrade.
You will be pleasantly surprised to hear that there is no mac software for any video camera.......
Because all the necessary software for any and all digital video cameras is built right into the MacOS and the iMovie application and the iPhoto Application.
So, all you have to do is connect your camera to your Mac, using the cable that came with your camera, either firewire or USB turn on the camera and then launch iMovie and the Mac will automatically recognize that a camera is connected and it will ask you if you want to import...
Voila Fantastic merveilleux hooolala !!
