I have an hp dv2422la with the same problem and just discovered something after trying many solutions with drivers and configuration. It is a problem of the fisical design of the dvd rom, If you open it by stiking a wire or stick in the little hole you will be able to open the drive and realize the cable under the cd carriage is maybe the same way that mine. It is not secured enogh and it is bent and scracht so that the information to the computer is going crazy, sometimes works and some others not, am I right or not?????? let me know please

The dvd player wont open and it isn't reading dvd's.

You will want to check in Device Manager to see if the device is even detected by the computer. Right Click My Computer, Properties, Click Hardware Tab and Device Manager. If it isn't recognizing the DVD drive then it is most likely bad.

Can not Find in "My Computer" the DVD RW and DVD

Are the power and data cables plugged in from the DVD-RW to the PC?
If cables are plugged in ans secure, download the driver and install it on your PC. You might need to restart after that.

Drivers not working. Can not play any dvd,cd's.Its been about a week. Reinstalled drivers on Help and Support, but still not working. Any Ideas?

When you say Drivers not working, can you please confirm if you are referring to the CD Drives ?

If yes you can first make sure that the Drives are detected in Windows Explorer.

Click on Start Then click on "Computer" or "My Computer"

See if the CD / DVD drive is detected

If the drive is detected in Explorer and not able to read the discs, try various discs of different brands.

If none of the disc is readable then the Drive is gone back and you will need to replace it.

In case the Drive is not detected in the Windows Explorer then you can check if the device is detected the Device Manager.

To open device manager Press the Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc

Press Enter of click OK

It will open the device manager

look under CD/DVD drive if there is any yellow exclamation mark.

If you see the Drive listed with an Exclamation then follow the steps to delete lower filter and upper filter from the Windows registry Editor.

My hp laptops dvd rom is not shown and is not detecting any dvd

Have you used Device Manager and done a search for new hardware? If that has not helped, then you should try to open the laptop to check whether the wires are fully connected, if these are internal.

It is possible that the wires became disconnected, and need to be reconnected to work again.

Try that.

Laptop cannot detect dvd drive and wont load discs

Hi,

If its detected in device manager then you have a chance to get it running, just right click on it and uninstall, if prompted "Delete installed device drivers" put tick in the box and proceed.

Now reboot...new drivers will be re-installed when you login to vista.

If its not in the device manager, then it maybe a faulty drive or just that it needs re-seating.

Consult an engineer.

Thanks

My cd/dvd does not show up in my computer

Check your system BIOS whether it is Detected there, if no, Shutdown your system, Press your CD-Rom drive towards the system firmly (Incase its making a partial contact), and restart your system. If Yes, then Start your system, Right-Click on my computer, go to properties, Device Manager, DVD/CDRom Drives. and click on it. if your CD Rom Drive is not detected there, then on the Device Manager Screen, click on Action, Scan for hardware changes, your system should detect it automatically. But if its already there, right-click on it, Uninstall it and do the scan system for hardware changes again. It should solve the problem like that.
