Manual and auto-focus don't work anymore, I'm afraid a lens moved out of place... If I slowly shake it I can hear a VR-like noise, even though the VR is off.
The warranty expired and I bought the lens outside my home country so I was wondering whether I should try to fix the problem myself or give up and ship it overseas: they won't repair it where I live.
In case I try to fix it by myself, do you have any advice? Besides being aware I'm most likely to screw everything up ;p ?

Dear nitronerd,
I would not attempt to fix the lens yourself. This is a very nice lens and is likely to be worth fixing. Since you are outside of the warranty period you should be able to get it fixed at any local repair center as long as they have the know how. If your local repair center will not repair the lens there are numerous camera repair facilities you could ship it to that you can find on the internet.
Sincerely,
Allan
