Question about Sony KP-53V85 53" Rear Projection Television

White dots/green lines

When the tv first turns on there are white dots scrambling around the screen. Nothing horrible, but still a nuisance. About 10 minutes later they finally fade away. But also there are 3 or so vertical lines in a redish hue that do not go away. Not very horrible, they are faint, but would be nice to fix. What would most likely be the cause of these problems?? And how to fix??

ok, so i took the tv in to a local repair guy. He got rid of the
white dots, but he said it needs a new main board. He said it
probably wouldn't be worth it. He said he looked around on the
internet and everything and couldn't find a good deal on a new board
for the SONY KP-53V85. Apparently a new one would be around 400$
CDN and would be 150$ labour to install. Anyone know of any sites
to find a good new board? And if i do get one, is 150$ labour a
    rip off??

I would not recommend seeking a board replacement for several reasons, main being, if you do locate a board even with right part number, that board may have a revision not compatible with your circuit. Also, boards may have been repaired and sold as new.
Bottom line, consider buying a new TV

The problem could be in vertical blanking or video processor circuit. Also redish vertical lines may be from external RF or magnetic interference. Move set to new location away from appliances and speakers

There is a humming in back of tv.the sound always good but picture doesnt come thru and i get a green screen someetimes blurry with distortion.color wheel or dmd chip or lamp starting to go out

as my experience, the most possible reason should be the color wheel or its photo sensor board.

firstly try to clean its photo sensor board, or have to replace a new wheel.

i just have this wheel, when you need to replace it, contact me freely

54inch Hitachi TV has double figures and colors red, yellow-not normal. Set approximately seven -eight years old. Lost remote control and direction book in moving. Is the set worth getting fixed? Generally...

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms

  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Converge off a little and screen has green tint

If you have the remote, go to the setup screen and move the picture. Converge has nothing to do with where the picture sits but, where the red, blue & green dots land. All you should see are pure white dots. There should be absolutely NO color ghost anywhere on the screen. If so, you need a bar / dot generator to set the convergence to center the dots.

Mitsubishi wd52525 problems

i have thought about this since you first posted it. if the demo is good then the light engine is ok. it sounds like a problem in the chassis. probably on the DM and the terminal board. to repair the chassis would cost about $250.00 plus shipping.

Green dot in middile of my screen

The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
