I have a Bissell Powersteamer Turbo (8804) carpet cleaner and the knob for the smartmix control for the cleaning solution container turns continuously. I have taken the cover off the top and the little piston (pin) which controls the flow is not sitting in the housing or with the underside of the knob. Is there a way to fix this? I have the piston still but I have tried using an online repair manual and it doesn't seem to be working....or I am not following correctly. Thanks a lot for your help!

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!YAY.
the piston comes out easily with a pair of plyers.hold the cover on your lap upside down, smart mix knob closest to you, there is a slot for the piston to fit in to, turn the knob slightly (about 1/2") you will see that you can lift the knob slightly out of the way then you can slide the piston into place. leave the knob at that position to hold the piston and slowly put the cover back in place. if the piston goes in,just before you put the cover all the way down turn the knob back to water only.if everything is in place, PUT THE SCREWS IN!!!! hope this helps.

If it won't dispense water then that means that the pump belt needs to be replaced. Here is the belt you need:

How To Fix Your Bissell Carpet Cleaner When Solution Doesn't Spray

If you have a Bissell Carpet Cleaner, and you're machine is not spraying water on the floor, there are several things that might be causing this. Here's a list of possible problems that might be causing the machine not to spray water:

It may be a problem with your pump belt. Bissell Carpet Cleaners use a belt that powers the pump to spray solution out. There are also a few other possible issues, but as a Bissell warranty station, the belt going bad out-numbers all other problems.

Remove the belt access door and inspect the pump belt to ensure it is not broken, worn or stretched. You may also check the belt by turning on the power and watching the brush on the bottom of the machine. If the brush rotates the belt is not broken.

If your belt is worn out or broken, here's a direct link to that belt on our website:
Bissell Pro-Heat, Pro-Heat 2 6960W Replacement Pump & Brush Belts

Here's a great video that will show you how to check, and replace the pump belt on your ProHeat carpet cleaner:

If this was not the problem, here are some other things that you may check:

  • Make sure there is liquid in both the Tank-in-Tank and the SmartMix bottle. Both tanks must contain fluid or the machine will not spray properly.
  • Check for proper placement of the o-ring on the SmartMix Cap Insert (some o-rings are detachable and need to fit over the straw; others are molded to the cap).
  • Check for liquid in the base of the machine where the SmartMix Bottle sits (SmartMix Reservoir). If there is no liquid in the reservoir, the neck on the SmartMix Bottle may be undersized and the cap will not make proper contact with the unit. If there is no liquid present, you will need a replacement SmartMix Bottle.
  • Check for the black or red tank gasket on the SmartMix Bottle Cap and on the bottom of the Tank-in-Tank Assembly. If gasket is lodged in base of unit or has been lost, reattach gasket on auto-load or order new gasket if appropriate.
  • Check the valves on the bottoms of the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle to make sure water/solution will come through when the "x" valve is depressed. (Bladder or SmartMix bottle may be empty or the valve may be blocked internally.) Use a soft-bristled brush and hot tap water to clear any debris. Replace autoload assembly or cap/insert if necessary.
  • Check if the small rounded window tabs on the top edge of the Floor Nozzle are locked in their mating slots on the base of the machine, and not inadvertently lifting the tank up out of place.

If these suggestions have not resolved the problem you are experiencing with your machine, you might want take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center. I really hope that this information was helpful to you. If you find what's wrong with your Bissell and have specific questions about how you can fix it, please just let me know and I'll be happy to walk you through step by step to fix any problem you may have on your Bissell.

Can not get smartmix knob and plunger to line up to put back together

Turn the plunger so that the flat edge is turned all the way to the right (clock wise) as far as it will go. Turn the dial on the cover to just water and it should line up. If the plunger is stuck in the cover pull it out and put it in the bottom part of the cleaner.
