Lift the lid up and down,if you don't hear any clicking the lid switch broke,if that's not it check the motor coupling,take the two clips off that hold the pump in place,remove the two screws and the two clips that hold the motor in place and the coupling is on the back of the motor,if the washer is dead it's the lid switch,if it makes a grinding noise but doesn't move then it could be the coupling,let me know how you make out
i looked up your washer,it must be very old,it shows a drive belt in this washer but i've never seen that before in a kenmore washer.with the age of this waher if it wasn't the lid switch i wouldn't put any money into it.the money it will cost to fix it if you have to call someone in you'd only need a few more bucks to buy a new washer.sorry and good luck

Old Maytag makes terrible noise on start. A washcloth was lodged between basket and wall in previous load and it flooded 2 rooms. FIY solutions?
