Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

I have a Liftmaster 2000SDR garage door opener mfg in 1998. I recently took a lightning surge and I know that the logic board is fried (visual evidence). I can replace the board for around $75, but how do I know that the fried board is my ONLY problem? Most places won't allow return of circuit boards, so if it doesn't work, I am out $75 and have to buy a new opener.

There is no way to tell for certain although the logic board is usually the problem when lightening is around.

Chamberlain makes a surge protector that is made specifically for their openers. I would try one of those. The part number is 990LM and should be available from any service company in the yellow pages that advertises Chamberlain or Liftmaster. Unfortunately as you have learned, lightning loves logic boards.

Lightning may have hit garage opener. Not working anything I can check

Lightning loves logic boards. You can remove the board and check for missing traces on the printed circuit. Unfortunately this is fairly common.

Champion Liftmaster Garage will not open or close. Just clicks

Pull the logic board and check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit. I would guess at an estimate of $125.00 but don't even know where you live.

It sounds like the logic board has quit working on the one opener. If you have had lightning or power surges you might remove the logic board and check for loose, burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.

Chamberlain open light

That light is controlled by a relay on the logic board. The relay must be sticking. This is a problem commonly caused by lightning strikes or power surges. The only cure I know of is a new logic board.

It is really a common problem for lightning or electrical surges to take out the logic board. Big expense too.

Chamberlain Craftsman garage door opener

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.

THE POWER SURGE PROBABLY FRIED THE TIMER CIRCUIT.

CAN YOU TURN OFF THE LIGHT FROM YOUR WALL CONTROL?
