I got the same message. I put in a new battery still get the battery low message despite a 24 hour charge.
This sounds like something Toshiba might at one time have had a download to remedy. Anyone out there have access to the fix.

I still get the same message despite putting in a brand new battery. I am now attempting to solve the problem by draining the battery completely empty.
Toshiba no longer seems to support the E310. There must be a software upgrade to fit this problem. Anyone out there have it.
I do have a manual, but not at work with me. However, I do remember seeing an explanation for a switch that is located on the lower left hand corner of the pda that you would have to use a paper clip to reach. I would wait for someone else to verify, but I suspect this is a hardboot type of reset instead of the button located on back that is accessed via the paper clip. This second switch located on the bottom of the device was a batter disconnect or lock out or something like that.
Just my humble thoughts.
I've done lots with the Ipaq series but not so much with the Toshibas. I helped my 10 year old daughter buy this one used off of ebay with her allowance so we had to go with a low cost pda.
