RCA Entertainment Series 32" Plus Gold, GEMSTAR, xbox ready has been in the shop twice so far. Transformer replaced and 6 months later the picture suddenly had horizontal white lines that gradually spaced apart more from top to bottom and it had a gray hue and fuzzy, but I still watched it for 3 months that way. Today I turned it on and about a minute later I heard a loud crackling sound coming from the back and the picture disappeared, screen went black. Is it worth fixing again? It could be the Digital board. It does most of the video processing before being sent to the Optical Engine. This is a expensive board and I recommend to call a professional to be sure.
Hope this helps,
I sorry to say I think you have a component failing that is related to heat. 15 years is a long time and if the TV was used in hpot conditions over the years it may well be the proble, or it's just old.
This is usually caused by the tuner which loses the chrominance part of
the NTSC signal. Your did not say how you have it connected but it you
try using a composite video input (yellow jack) and get the color OK
than it must be the tuner which is not cheap but is worth having
Hope Ya Fix it!
as you say that color came back for 15 minutes then went off.
this is a clear indication that there is a loose contact or pcb crack somewhere in color section only.
if that happens to be ok then check
1 antena or cable socket loose
2 loose connector in color section
3 print open or crack near chroma signal processor.
4 loose near color control.
5 chroma ic night be defective.

Isolate filament voltage from CRT,i.e. unplug
Crt socket from pix tube.Measure filament voltage on CRT PCB.If present, suspect bad pix tube.If missing, solder any/all connects in
filament circuit, meaning CRT board first then
