Wont scan without ink cartridge empty

Failing to scan when an ink cartridge is empty is the normal behavior of most ink-jet printers. They are printers first and the manufacturers put in a lock to prevent air bubbles or dried blobs of ink stuck in the print system.

Replace the empty ink cartridge and then scan your document. To avoid the issue in the future, get a stand-alone scanner.

I wish that I had a better solution for you.

Do i need ink to scan with an mp250?

Scanning document from the printer does not require having ink in the printer cartridge. Ink only required during photocopy and printing document.

Hi, I have the Canon Pixma MX310 and I tried to replace the ink cartridge but I messed i up and I still don't know how to replace it... I think it's error 5100 or something because it says it on...

Installing ink cartridges:
Make sure that the machine is turned on, lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) with both hands, then pull the Scanning Unit Support (A) down into place.Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.Note: - Do not attempt to reattach the protective tape once you have removed it.do not touch the gold electrical contacts or the print head nozzles after removing the protective tape.Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.- Black: the left slot- Color: the right slot*
  1. *One black cartridge and one color cartridge must be installed in the machine in order for the printer to operate. It does not matter if the capacities (Standard or High) do not match.

  2. Push up on the front of the cartridge until it locks into place. (A click sound will be heard when the cartridge is locked in place.)Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.OR

  3. <1> The ink cartridge is not installed properly.

<2> The ink cartridge is installed properly.

  4. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

  5. Wait until the preparatory operation is complete; it takes about one to two minutes.
Removing Ink Cartridges:
  1. After confirming that the printer is powered on, open the scanning unit (printer cover). The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position.

  2. Press down on the semi-circular tab to release the cartridge and then remove it.
  3. Remove and replace each cartridge individually. Or, remove the second cartridge after the first has been removed.

  4. Fold the scanning unit support and close the scanning unit (printer cover).

How do i change the ink cartridge

    • Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned on.
    • Grasp the front top of the printer. This is the Scanning Unit Cover.
    • Lift the Scanning Unit Cover gently until you hear a click. The cover will remain open by itself.
    • Wait while the cartridge holder moves from the left to the center of the printer. The ink cartridges are located in the cartridge holder.
2. Then from there you just need to remove each individual ink cartridge and replace it with your newly purchased cartridges. Be sure to replace each one in it's appropriate location!

Do you have to have ink to scan a doc?

The answer to your question is "No" you don't need to have Ink to scan a document. But there's a common issue, if there's an error or the printer prompts to insert or replace a cartridge/s, then you'll not be able to scan unless you clear the error, i.e. replace the cartridge.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Scan without replacing print cartridges on Epson Stylus NX410?

You actually can scan documents when you dont have ink. Instead you will have to activate the scan function from the epson driver/program instead of pressing the scan button directly on the printer. I had the same problem and it took a while to figure out.

I changed the ink error c69 shows up

This printer will not work if any of the cartridges are empty. I got the C69 and epson support told me I have to replace the Blue Ink Cartridge as well.

I think this is why the printer was so inexpensive.

Ink "new" , yet not registering as any in machine. Help please.

I'll bet you're using cheap generic ink, after having used real Brother ink cartridges. It sees and it knows the ink is generic (apparently by measuring the electrical resistance of the ink). I'm in the midst of the same issue and am going to try using real Brother cartridges to see if the problem goes away.

Scanning when out of ink

I don't think the Scanner neeeds a Cartridge to Scan a Document. You should be able to scan your Document even if your Tanks ran out of Ink. Just use the same process of scanning that you used so far and will be successful to scan the Document you're about to.
If you can't do anything regarding this, contact Vendor.
