)HP (Hewlet Packard) dos not use any specific brand of drives for all their machines, internal or external. By the part number, I see you have an USB external 750Gb (HP HD7500S USB 2.0 Hard Drive) or an HP Personal Media Drive (HD5000s) For information on the Personal Media Drive, I am posting this HP link for more information for you to copy paste in a new browser window. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00189065&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3226521 Hope this helps..
Go into the BIOS setup (press f10 during boot process), then SYSTEM CONFIGURATION and disable SATA NATIVE SUPPORT. Try installing XP again and it should see your hard drive.
According to HP's specifications, your computer came with a 250GB SATA (serial ATA) hard drive. All drives have standard mounting dimensions, so any SATA drive would be compatible. HP has manuals here that give detailed steps on how to change the drive if you need help. It's a very simple process. Then yes, just put in your recovery disc and reload the original software. You'll then need to reinstall updates, any applications you put on, and so on.
Hope this gets you running again soon. Thanks for using Fixya!
Hard disk needs to be reformatted--start machine and press correct key when "setup" appears in first dialog. Remove hard drive in first screen, then reinstall. Restart computer, should now say: "operating system not found". You need original Microsoft OS disk to reformat drive and reinstall ME. All previous information on hard disk will be lost with this procedure. Recovery disk is used with original OS before Ubuntu. If you don't have original MS disk, suggest going to XP.
For some strange reason the HP website does not allude to which drive came with your machine. I would assume that information is in your original shipping manifest, but the site does offer a video or instructions on how to change your hard drive, just remember you will have to "clone" your old drive to the new one so all your features will be enabled in your system.
yes.. because the booting information and booting files are sored only in active primary partition of a hard drive. i.e primary drive. if you remove the primary it wont recognize the OS with out booting information. you should need to reinstall OS.
