With 1024MB of RAM, Windows XP should be _fast_ (although Windows Vista will be slow).

Look at each stick of the 512MB RAM -- look for 'PC2100' (or, equivalently, 'DDR266') or 'PC2700' (or equivalently 'DDR333') or 'PC3200' (or equivalently 'DDR400') labels.
Look at each stick of the 1GB RAM, for the similar labels.

Then, make sure that you put "equivalent" or "faster" RAM,
i.e., if your current RAM is 'PC2700', then do _NOT_ use 'PC2100' RAM.

You've got several combinations of RAM to try in your 2 "slots" for RAM:
* 512MB plus 512MB
* 512MB plus 1GB (4 different "pairs" to try)
* 1GB plus 512MB (4 different "pairs" to try)
* 1GB plus 1GB
* 1GB and empty (try one stick, then try the other stick)
* empty and 1GB (try one stick, then try the other stick)

Keep notes about which combinations work, and which do not.
It's possible that one of your 4 sticks of RAM is "bad".

It doesn't accept a memory ram upgrade. I had 512 MB and wanted to install 1 GB but the beeps started to sound.

Hi there,

The beeps are likely related to a memory issue on your motherboard when you boot up. This is usually caused by either getting a bad Stick of RAM, or the specs of the RAM are not compatible with your motherboard. Make sure that the specs of the new RAM is exactly the same as the specs of the old RAM. Each motherboard can only accept certain specifications of RAM. If you have additional questions feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you on it.

I have an intel workstation S5520sc + 24 gb ram + 2 * 1.5 terra hdd raid 0 + pcie vga ati 1 gb. i'm trying to install window 7 ent. 64 bits, but the installation hang on ;" completing...

Try reducing the RAM size leaving only 8 gb, be sure that the RAM chips are identical and compatible with the motherboard (you can look at the manual for this) and placed correctly in the memory banks.
Give me more details of the memory time and BIOS adjustments (overclocked RAM? CPU? )

Dear Sir,

You can install upto 3 GB RAM. i.e. 1GB PC3200 DIMM RAM in each slot.

Please go to BIOS settings & load the defaults. / check following. BIOS settings.
DIMM clock & timing is auto/ detected by SPD (Serial Presence Detect)

Possibly the 1GB RAM you are trying to install does not have SPD / is faulty. Try with a new / working 1 GB RAM.

Hope this helps you friend...

Installing 2 sticks of 1 gb ram = DRAM error beeps

If the computer is working with one gb stick and not the other, try this:

Swap the sticks with the one that does work. If it works then its the memory card slot on the motherboard. If it doesn't boot up, then it's the memory stick.
