How to remove a virus - free virus protection/removal software

How to Remove a Virus With Software Recommendations

In this tech article I will go over methods to protect and remove viruses from your computer. Viruses can cripple a computer and steal your personal information. You should protect your computer at all times and learn what and what not to do on the internet.

Free Virus Protection Tools
The following programs are free and highly recommended.

Spybot Search and Destroy - This tool will scan and clean your computer from spyware. It will also run actively in the background to protect against infection.

MalwareBytes - You can use MalwareBytes to remove all forms of viruses from your computer but it cost extra to have the real time protection. Nonetheless, a very good tool and free to use.

AVG Anti-Virus - The basic software is free and provides protection against viruses and spyware. It also has link scanning which can come in handy.

It is important to keep these software utilities up to date with the latest virus definitions needed to protect and clean your computer.

Removing Viruses

-If by some chance you are already infected or the programs happen to let your computer get infected(not likely) then you need to take certain steps in order to completely remove the virus. If you have System Restore active in Microsoft Windows, you can restore the computer to a state before the infection. Afterwards, do complete scans of the computer using the programs above.

-Malware will stop anti virus programs from running, and other basic computer functions needed to remove viruses like Task Manager and System Restore. If you are at a point of infection where you can't use any of your basic computer functions. You will need to boot the computer into Safe Mode without Networking(no internet). Once you boot into safe mode, run system restore or your virus removal programs.

-You can boot into safe mode by continually pressing F8 as the computer is booting up. Then choose the Safe Mode option.

-Be careful when using Facebook. There is a new trick going around to spread nasty viruses. Basically, the facebook app pretends to show you who your top friends are. There are no programs that can do this so if you see anything like this come your way, do not click it. Also, do not login to any facebook login except at the main facebook site. If you click on a link in facebook it may take you to a fake login page so be wary.

-Be careful when clicking attachments in emails. Only open attachments from people you trust. Be sure to scan the attachments before you actually run/open them on your computer.

-Be careful when downloading programs from websites you are not familiar with.

-Make sure to keep Microsoft Windows up to date. New viruses and exploits are created monthly and Windows updates is a first line of defense.

With these tools and tips, you should now be better protected against virus infection. After installing webroot comp applications does not work

There might be a conflict

Background b> Many personal computers connected to the Internet will more than likely eventually become infected with spyware, malware, viruses or Trojan horses. Such programs spread via spam, bad links or freeware. Once they invade your computer, they can do anything they want, such as disabling your antivirus software, tracking your keystrokes and deleting files. b> About McAfee and Webroot b> McAfee and Webroot are some of the most popular computer security programs. Both companies have features on their programs, such as firewalls and live scans, which prevent future infections. Computer owners, however, should never run two programs since they cause each other to crash. Only one antivirus program should be on a computer at once. b> Spyware Prevention b> Along with using computer security programs, computer owners can prevent infections by browsing the Internet with caution. They should avoid file sharing and ad-laden websites since such websites often harbor spyware. They should also avoid downloading anything without researching it beforehand use as safe a Web browser as possible. If you right click in the bottom toolbar select task manager under processes and the applications tabs you will see what is running and ticking over if you see something running that should not be select end now or even uninstall it or disable it Hope this helps

DO NOT PUT YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS IN!!
This is the virus trying to steal your credit card information. if you have already done so i suggest that you cancel that card immediately.
to get rid of this virus you will need a decent antivirus but im guessing that the computer is already seriously infected and will only let you use internet explorer.
if you have another computer available go to download.com and download avast antivirus or anything similar. transfer this onto a data stick and then try and install it on the infected pc. when installed avast will ask to reboot and run a system check up for viruses installed in the start up menu. continue to do this. it may take a while, depending on how badly affected your computer is.
hope this helps but remember do not give credit card details or any other personal information.

Very slow response esp. when using internet

i also think so, your pc might have been infect by some virus, malware or spyware and it will result to computer running slow and freezes. it is always better to have a reliable software that can help you out with this matter and avoid further damage.

Husband's computer infected with "Antivirus Live"

Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download their anti-malware program. Put the program on a USB driver and then boot up the infected computer into "Safe Mode" by repeatedly pressing F8 during the intital boot up sequence. You'll be prompted to with a menu to start windows. Select Safe Mode and follow the prompts. Once started, insert the USB device and run the malwarebytes program. It should remove the worst of the problem and then once you're able to boot up normally, run a thorough scan with your antivirus software as well.

Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and download a copy of their free Anti-malware program. Install it on your computer and run a full scan before you reboot to detect malware that has infected your computer. Fix anything it finds.
If you can't do this using the computer that is having problems, do it from another computer and burn the downloaded program onto a cd, from which you can install it onto the infected machine.
Try this and report back the results...
