How to change an adobe reader program to microsoft word?

I am assuming you want the .pdf extension to automatically open with word instead.

To change which program starts when you double-click a file, follow these steps:
  1. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button, and then click Explore.
  2. Click a folder that contains a file of the type that you want Windows to open in a program that you select.
  3. Right-click the file and, depending on the programs installed on your computer, complete one of the following steps:
    • Click Open With to choose the program that you want.
    • Point to Open With, and then click Choose Program to choose the program that you want.
  4. The Open With dialog box is displayed. Use one of the following methods to select the program that you want to use for this file type:
    • In the Programs list, click the program that you want to use.
    • Click Browse, locate and then click the program that you want to use, and then click Open.
    • Click Look for the appropriate program on the Web to browse the Internet for the program that you want to use.
  5. Click to select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if it is not selected.
  6. Click OK.

Note From now on, Windows XP will open all files that have this file name extension in the program that you selected. To change this, you must follow these steps again and associate a different program with this file name extension.

Everytime I try to open an application, itunes opens instead.

Uninstall iTunes -- it's _free_ software, so it can be re-installed later.

Then, open My Documents, and double-click on a file (a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, or a PDF file) and see which program Windows chooses to open to "handle" the file that you double-clicked.

I can't open Microsoft Picture It! Publishing, using Windows 7. Can you suggest how?

Unfortunately, Microsoft themselves list the program as incompatible with Windows 7. In fact, the entire Picture It! product has been discontinued. This means that there won't be any updates or later versions to make it compatible. You'll need to find some other software to take its place.

One good free program for image viewing and editing is IrfanView. It's no Photoshop, but offers the basic tools most people need. It's compatible with W7, and it's free (yes I'm repeating myself but it's a good point). Here's a review from one site if you want to know more.

I want to edit images in photoshop that are in a Quark file. When I double click the file opens in Preview instead, how do I resolve this file association issue?

Right click on file, choose Open with option, click on Choose program, and you can select from there Photoshop. If you want to open always with Photoshop, check option "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Clik OK, and..... that's it.
