Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

We have Sharp miocowave, over the stove carousel, model R-1480, manufatured march 1998. When we touch the start button on the microwave, about 1/2 of the times the circuit breaker breakes. After we reset the circuir breaker, it is more likely that the microwave will start. Usually, the longer we wait after touching start, the better chace that it will start. Question is why does the circuit breaker break?

A blown breaker is usually a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

In fact, I have uploaded the entire service manual for this to our site here.

If you find a bad switch, it's best to replace them all.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I have the Sharp R-1440 carousel microwave oven and it won't shut off when I close the door. Do you know how old this oven might be? Model R-1440; Serial 123662

Check and change door interlock switches or check for condensation problem on control panel, (internal).
Hope that helps.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

It may have an intermittently shorting keypad or another problem on the control panel, which we repair for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service.

Microwave locked

On the R1490-series, you press Custom Help > "1" > Stop/Clear to turn the child lock off.

This may work for you, or press Custom Help and look for a lock option.

If your model does not have a Custom Help button, please reply back with your exact model.
