I accidentally put the memory card in backwards damaging the pins in my digital eos camera, now the camera won't even turn on. Does damaging the pins keep the camwera from turning on, and how much am I looking at in repairs.

I would think it would prevent it from turning on since you can't shoot much without a memory card. It may have also damaged other internal components. You'll probably have to send it back to Canon directly to check the extent of the damage and quote for repair :(

Card reading error

Have you tried a different SD card, or a newer SD card? If the card isn't the issue you may have damaged/dirty pins in the camera memory slot. If so, there are "cleaning" cards available that MIGHT work but otherwise, it will need to go in for repair.

Hello

The issues you are running into are indicative of two possible issues.

First, the memory card may simply be bad. But before you purchase or try another memory card, you need to look for the second possible issue. The second issue, which is typcially more common, is that inside the card slot on the camera, there are pins, it is possible that one or more of these pins has become bent or damaged. If you look inside you can usually see a pin or pins out of alignment or bent over. If that is the case, the camera will need to go in for service.

Insert memory card and says card not read, format disk. Camera menu wont allow formatting.

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards.

SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Cf error - camera now dead

None of this sounds good. I would start by checking the condition of the pins in the CF card slot. A small light and a loupe will help. If any of the pins are damaged, bent, or even missing, then the camera may have had a short circuit and blown the internal fuses. Neither the pins or the fuses are user replaceable.

Canan 350D with CF error, says no image on screen. How do I fix this?

The memory card could be bad, try formatting the memory card, or the camera could be damaged. Look inside the memory card door, take out the memory card and look at the little pins in the camera that the memory card connects to. If any are bent or missing then the camera will need a major repair to be fixed. This is something for Canon or qualified technician to fix.

Canon EOS 400D dslr will not work various CF memory cards. Error message ( replace CF card)

Using a flashlight, check thru the CF memory card reader if there are some pins that are bent, missing (broken) or damaged.

If this is the case, it is necessary to have serviced the camera to replace such pins, and inspectd for the broken pin pieces that may be stuck inside the camera, and cause later a short circuit.

If all the pins are in good conditions, may be the internal memory reader circuitry is failing, which requires also a professional camera repair service.

If it's under warranty, I do recommend you to send it back to make valid the warranty.

If not, then you have the options of pay for its repair, or do it yourself if you are willing to open it and perform the steps to repair it.

If so, You will need tools to do it, which includes the usage of a soldering iron, microscope (since requires micro soldering), and buy the CF memory card reader connector..

Best regards,

CF Card is not being read, Canon Digital 350D EOS Problem

It does not sound good. You might want to get a flashlight or similar and look into the memory card slot to check the connector pins in the camera. They may be bent or damaged.

This happens when image data cannot be written/extracted on CF card. Try a card that you know is ok ( works on other cameras ). If problem persists one or more pins in the CF card chamber may be bent or even broken off. Try to straighten but be careful not to damage undamaged pins... but may have to go to an expert for repairs.
