Question about E-Machines T6528 PC Desktop

1 Answer

5.1 vs. 4.1 speakers.

Sorry but now I'm perplexed.

I found a typical connection on the Soundblaster website and it showed up to a 4.1 system using TWO outputs, which the T6528 has and it shows them using THREE outputs, which the T6528 does not have for the 5.1 speakers.

I think maybe yours has a different onboard sound card?

I also feel that a 4.1 should do him just fine as this is basically for music and not gaming.

Thanks for your help and if I'm nuts please feel free to let me know.

Thanks,

Pete

I did see that Logitech has a speaker set that converts the two output setup to 5.1. I'm going to steer him that way.

Thanks for all of your help.

Can i use my boston 5.1 speakers with a powered sub with my new computer system.it used soundblaster software?

The speakers themselves don't care what you have them connected to. They just take an audio input from the computer, which is a function of the computer's sound card and drivers. As long as the computer hardware is working properly, the speakers will too.

There is one possible problem, though. If these speakers came with your computer as part of a Gateway system package several years ago, they may be a digital-input version only. Gateway supplied these speakers and a Creative Soundblaster card that had a digital output was installed in the computer. The way to tell on your speakers is to look at the plug on the end of the cable. Which of the two below looks like yours?

pgh_pa_guy_6.jpg

If it's the one on the left, you can use the speakers with any analog sound source (computer, iPod, etc.). But if looks like the one on the right (a mono plug), you have the digital speakers. Unless the sound card in your new computer has digital output available, the speakers won't work. In the past, I was able to put the original sound card and drivers into someone's new computer and it worked, but the original software is not compatible with Vista or Windows 7.

Hope this helps you get it figured out. Thanks for using Fixya!

Need to connect to a sound blaster live sound card for recording using sonar as recording program. hace had it in storage for sometime and can't remember what went where

This particular mixer offers a usb (2 channel connection) that can be simply plugged into the computer usb 2.0. These channels should be available in Sonar from the channel Input/output drop boxes. You may need to restart Sonar, the mixer or both for them to be recognized. You may also need to run the Wav Profiler in Sonar. Typically the Wave Profiler is found in the Options>Audio menu but may be different on each edition of Sonar. The above info is for Sonar 7.

If you are wanting to record several channels at once then I would recommend connecting your Mixer's Direct Outputs from each channel to a corresponding input of the soundblaster if your soundblaster supports multiple channels. And then use the usb outbut from the Sonar to monitor the computer playback of your master stereo channel. Or, you may connect the soundblaster outputs to unused channels of the mixer or to the tape return or auxilary inputs to monitor the computer playback on the mixer.

Alternately you can send the signal to your soundblaster via the buss outputs. This will limit the number of simaltanious output channels to the number of busses on the mixer, but you can send any mixer channel to any buss without unplugging the instruments or mics.

Here's the link to the page where you can download the free pdf manual for this mixer. Page 14 explains the output connections and has diagrams.

How many rca wires do i need what kind of mic and will it work off a soundblaster external soundcard and if possible i'd like to have a drawing to show what goes where

We have no way to enter drawings on FIXYA.

Figure 3.1 in your user manual has everything you need to know.

You would need 4 cables with RCA plugs at the 1202 end and whatever your soundblaster interface takes at its end to handle STEREO signals to and from the unit.

Almost any type of mic will work, and the choice of mic depends on what you are using it for and how much you have budgeted for. If you are in a studio without monitor, then one typically uses condenser mics AND for those you turn on the "phantom" power on this mixer. If you have speakers tied to this or where the mic can "hear" the speakers you likely cannot use condenser mics as they will cause feedback.

Driver

there are no drivers for the speakers, you need an audio driver installed for you sound card.

http://support.dell.com

Your system will either have an on-board sound card (Sigmatel normally) or a soundblaster expansion audio card. (If the audio jacks are in an expansion slot below the video card, then you have a soundblaster.

Soundblaster drivers are found at http://www.creative.com
