Best to use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
This utility will format any USB flash drive, with your choice of FAT, FAT32, or NTFS partition types.

Download it from here for example, install it put your cart into reader and start the software.

Select proper device/card, file system and format - then re-check if you can access the card in your device.

Micro SD card is write protected, but can't seem to reformat it

you might try formatting it with a windows pc. Sometimes devices have problems with cards formatted by Mac. Even when it is formatted to a FAT file system. On a side note I don't believe that Macs will format to Fat 16 anymore. (Macs use a different file system that windows altogether). You may also check the card to make sure that there isn't a manual read only switch. (It would show a picture of a small lock next to a tiny switch on the card)

WHILE REFORMATING THE PHONE MEMORY, THE PHONE ALWAYS SHUTS DOWN

Nokia has had the overheating problems for some time.
1st. I would look for a chipset update. Or update firmware.
2nd. Contact Nokia via email and ask for help, they will in turn tell you where to go for firmware updates and advise as to what can be done.
3rd. Try reformatting phone with and without battery and see if symptoms are the same.
Good luck, try it, it my work!!!

Memeory Card Installation

There are several possible issues here so I will cover them all...

The size of the card is not the issue as the model you have is known to work with 2gb and 4gb SDRAM Cards.

If the memory you have is SDHC rather than Regular SD that would be the problem. Your device will not work with SDHC memory.

What OS did you use when you reformatted the card? The reason that I ask is that the standard format for that device is supposed to be FAT, not FAT32 or NTFS. If you formatted it in FAT32 or NTFS it will work fine on your computer but not on the phone.

Try reformatting the card using the FAT system.
