On self-cleaning we get an F9 error after a short period of loud clicking and light showing oven door locked. Oven will not work now. Any insight would be appreciated.

GE monogram double oven . Self cleaning top oven and F9 in red showing and beeping noise

F9 is a problem with the oven door lock circuit. If the door is locked, it's probably a bad switch that tells the oven it's locked. If the door isn't locked, it's probably a problem with the lock mechanism.

A common problem on many built-in GE ovens (you don't say if yours is built-in or free standing...) is air circulation in the control panel. The fan that keeps the panel cool either stops working or gets clogged with dirt/dust and can't move any air. This causes the panel to overheat and can cause all kinds of odd problems and error codes. If you have a built-in, check to make sure the fan is working and the mesh screen behind it is clean.

F9 error code appears within two hours of self clean cycle

F9 error code on GE ovens is usually caused by a problem in the door lock/latch system for the self clean. You state it happens about 2 hrs into the clean cycle. My guess is the the control is not sensing that the door is actually locked. Could be several reasons. Bad door lock motor, Bad switch that senses the door is latched, or is some cases the main control board could have a problem and is just not reading the door is locked. You need someone with the right knowledge to trouble shoot which part is actually bad since it could several different problems.

My oven shows a f9-3 code how can i fix this short of calling a repair person

Hello,

The F9-3 error code means that their is a problem self clean door lock system. Typically their is 2 switches that check the position of the door latch and even if it's open and not in self clean mode the switches are telling the computer the latch is closed. You should if fairly mechanically inclined be albe to find the latch behind the control panel and use the wiring diagram there and check those switches using a meter set to a low ohms setting and check for one switch being open (infinate ohms resistiance) and the other to be closed (zero ohms)

Good luck, i hope this helps

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. F9 error in your oven/range indicates an issue with the door locks assembly and/or the door latch. To start with check the door lock circuit, you can also try to jump start it to see if it's working. If it's not working then the Electronic Range control has gone bad and should be replaced, if it is working then the door lock circuit should be replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Oven door locked.

The F9 code indicates there is a problem with the door lock.

Try disconnecting the power to the range for 10 seconds and reconnecting. Open the oven door and hold the door switch plunger in while you try these things. Put the control into clean for 5 minutes then cancel clean. You must hold the door switch plunger in for the 5 minutes.

Try canceling the clean cycle without putting the control into clean.

Amana EvenAir Convection Plus Self Cleaning Oven will not unlock.

My oven was locked and would not open. No lock light was on but the oven was clearly locked. F9 error when I hit certain buttons.

Try this. I unplugged the oven for about 5 minutes. Plugged back in. A LOCK light came on. Held down "Oven Cancel" for a few seconds. Door opened and lock light went off. No more F9 error when I hit those buttons.

Self cleaning oven directions

Press the self-clean button.  The panel becomes blank(---), then press the up arrow( ^ ).  The panel will appear 3:00 (indication for the duration of self-cleaning). The oven will lock on its own and start the self-cleaning.  Good luck, ya'll!
