I would go here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=20&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=93358 and download the drivers for windows 98 from compaq and see if it straightens out. sounds like the 98 cd fried your video drivers

Desktop frozen with the monitor showing disorted, green blocks

Try rebooting your computer with a disc or discs that came with it. That disc or discs should reinstall windows. If this does not work try getting linux or dos on a cd an try betting from the cd instead of the HDD. If this does not work either then it must your graphics card or HDD. I am leaning more towards graphics card because ussually your computer will give you a blue screen if your hard drive fails.

Goto HP's website to the support section download the drivers and replace your current ones. If it still does not the drive has failed and needs replacement.

Computer died. Need to do data recovery of SATA hard disk.

Hey Edward,

Use a SATA external hard drive enclosure (listings for the device on ebay) to connect the disc to a USB port on your other machine and transfer any data off of it.

You can find these devices locally also but you can pick them up on ebay pretty cheap.

Computer Trouble

Most likely an IRQ conflict error between other hardware. Double check settings first, then try to reinstall drivers. This might help: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/change-irq-settings.htm

Thank you for your suggestions

hi Shaidan ... try going into the system settings and advanced then visual effects under performance ... put it on custom then disable (remove checks) beside everything ... also many graphic cards have fans on the graphic processor these days ... you can take a look at that and make sure it is clean and performing ok ...

Computer screen graphics are distorted

It may be a corrupt driver, if you are running xp then go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware>device manager and look down list for graphics adapter. Click on the '+' sign select your graphics adapter and right click and delete. Restart your pc and and xp will find your graphics again and automatically install the drivers. Also check you have no spyware if it is sluggish and clear all your temp files and internet cookies. Use this free programme to give your system a clean out, it's excellent for finding unused system files and registry entries. click on this link and go to the top right side of page and click on download latest version. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
