I can view pictures I take just fine. However, when I try to take a picture, the view screen shows horizonal lines (black, white, purple in color). The camera takes a photo of these lines, not the item I am trying to photograph. My camera is over 3 years old.

Re: cannot take pictures
Sounds like you might be in luck. These symptoms sound very much like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

This is a problem with shutter not fast enough opening to take a picture indoor shows the horizontal lines. In sun light it is too slow and over expose the picture. Not worth the trouble to fix, buy another camera?
I have the same issue with my DSC s650 , I showed it to a Sony Service center they said its a CCD issue might need to replace that. The cost for replacement in India (Pune) was 2250.So I thought of buying a new one at say 4K INR
Hey Wistra, You could try resetting your camera to the factory settings by choosing the reset to default setting in the menu. If this doesn't work the sensor on the camera is most likely broken, and you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. If the camera was purchased less than a year ago the repair would most likely be covered under manufacturers’ warranty. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Allan Go Ahead. Use Us.
I recently had trouble with the LCD Display coming up with a black screen. So I mailed it to Fuji with a letter explaining the problem. About 3 weeks later I got it back in the mail and it seem to be working fine until a month later. I turned it on and the LCD display show a black screen only now it has white lines. I'm so incredible mad and extremely dissapointed in Fuji. Reading online I have notice many people having trouble with Fuji Products. I WILL NEVER BUY a Fuji again!!!
