Question about Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

The washing machine stopped during the rinse cycle and only produced a low humming sound. The pump appears to have stopped working. I need information on how to determine if the pump needs replacing and if so how to repair this problem myself.

Hi just read your posting. Now is the machine draining ?If not bail some of the water out with a pot or small bucket just enough so you can tip the machine back so you can look underneath the machine without it leaking everywhere. Now when you are looking under the machine look to the front right and you should see a red or black fan. This is your pump.Turn the fan clockwise and anticlockwise a few times to loosen the pump if it is jammed. The fan should turn freely. If it turns freely after turning the fan put the machine back on its feet and select a spin cycle and push the start button.Hopefully the machine will start to drain. Please reply on how you got on or if it still does not drain or if you have the newer type of pump.Good luck.

We had a similar issue: macvhine washed, but would not spin or drain. Machine cycled water in, as if it were about to spin, but lid never locked and spin cycle never kicked in. Diagnostic test indicated drain pump is blocked. We tried this solution, and it worked - while the machine was empty. As soon as we put clothes in it, the problem recurred. We have now bailed the machine out 4 times and are at our wits end. Any other suggestions?

After posting comment below, we experimented further. It appears our problem may be different: after trying the solution below again, while empty, the machine did spin, but the water did not drain out, after an initial few second spirt. We put two items in, to confirm the machine was actually spinning. It was, but this time, no water was removed. Any ideas?

My 5 year old Roper washing machine fills up, washes/agitates the cloths, drains them when the washer get to the rinse line to start the rinse cycle it stops, and all I hear is a humming. The machine will...

I'm not familiar with roper washing machines so I'll ask the question does it have two fill hoses. Most European machines now only have one fill. If it has two then it sound like the machine takes the initial water from the one fill and the rinse cycle water from another. The humming sounds like the valve for the other fill needs replacing. These are quite inexpensive and easy to fit. Power off.. remove lid ....switch of water...take out valve when you establish which one is affected and replace

Whrilpool modle #lsq9544kq0 washer works in

Humming could mean a stalled motor. These machines also have a coupling between motor and gearbox which can fail. However, the pump is attached to the motor, so if it's not pumping it probably means the motor isn't spinning. Check motor and/or gearbox.....Nomess

Noise during wash and rinse cycles

Got a response from another site - the noise was due to the recirculation pump (situated low down at the back on the other side from the drain hose) which was working, but clogged with a nasty grey 'porridge' of limescale and powder residue in the pipes either side of it. Dismantled, cleaned out pipes and ran a wash cycle to clear any remaining crud out. Seems ok now and wash jet working, noise gone.
