Question about Dell Dimension 3100 PC Desktop

2 Answers

My Dell desktop computer is plugged into a master switch. But I still have to turn on the computer to use it. Lately when I turn on the master switch, the computer turns on automatically. But the Windows XP greeting does not appear. It says on the monitor: Invalid configuration information please run ''Set-up'' program. Diskette drive 0 seek failure. Performing automatic IDE confirguration Primary Master: Disk Drive. Secondart Master CD-Rom Device. Time of Day not set Please run Setup program. Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. It also shows new programs added and I have not added any new programs. Also it is showing a floppy diskett added to the computer and I have never had one--there isn't even a place on my computer for a floppy disk drive. I don't know how to run the setup program. Please help! Thanks

From your description, you have acquired a fine virus that is reorganizing your system--suggest getting some professional help for a virus scan and clean plus getting rid of the extra programs. Also, check the condition of your CMOS battery. This service is not cheap, but may be essential in this case. Good luck!

Hi,

The CMOS/BIOS battery has died and needs replacing.

The battery is located on the motherboard inside the case of the computer.

To replace the battery you'll have to open the case up and replace the battery. It looks like this >>>

My Dell desktop computer is plugged into a master - 8b3bc39.jpg

Once you have replaced this battery and restarted your computer you will need to access the BIOS to set the date, time and also tell the computers BIOS that the floppy drive is not there and to set the boot order of the computer.

Once you have done all this you should not get that message again for a good few years.

Regards.

Press F2 to enter the system setup. Someone or something (Bad Motherboard battery most likely) has reset the BIOS defaults, which includes the Floppy diskette drive controller to be ON. Set Diskette Drive to NONE, then under integrated Devices, set diskette controller to off, save settings and reboot
(ALT + B)

if issue re-occurs then the watch battery on motherboard is bad and needs to be replaced

Dell optiplex mini tower wont turn on

Make sure the power is being supplied from a working source, then check if the switch on the bottom-back of the computer is switched on. If the power button still doesn't work, try holding the button down for 10 seconds. Next, try switching the switch off, unplugging the computer for at least 30 seconds, plugging it back in, switching the switch back on, and pressing the button.

Motherboard having a system password , idonot know what is its pa

Open the case and look for a jumper switch (usually blue or black color) labeled CLRTC or CRL. A jumper switch is a small connector connecting two pins on the motherboard. Same like the one in CD ROM drive or hard drive for selecting master or slave.
If you find it, unplug the power cable, remove the jumper. Wait 10 - 15 seconds, then put it back. Plug the power cable and try power up your computer.
